So, if you have suffered through a force close loop that made it so your shiny new launcher couldn't run, you know what has happened to me in the past half hour.
For those of you who HAVEN'T had this happen, then basically you replace the stock launcher on your android device, and set it as default. Then, for some reason, be it your fault or not, it wont start when you boot the phone, rendering it basically unusable.
Now, there are ways around it, such as going in to "Safe Mode" and then uninstalling your launcher, but unless you're already informed on how to do that, finding the solution for your specific phone might be a bit difficult. After a bit of experimenting, I got in to safe mode and fixed it all. (Turns out pulling the battery during boot isn't a good idea. long story short, it corrupted all of the apps on my internal storage and a factory data reset was the easiest way out.)
So here's my safeguard for this issue. (Don't worry about it if you're using the stock launcher on your device, this is only relevant to people that are using replacement launchers like ADW, Launcherpro, etc.)
There's a relatively new app called "Plug in Launcher" that you may or may not have heard of. Get it at this link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.launcher.plugin&feature=search_result
It offers you the option to have an app launch when you plug in headphones, a usb data connection, or power to your device.
Next, download the app "Home switcher for Froyo" from here:
https://market.android.com/details?id=ymst.android.homeswitcherfroyo&feature=search_result
Now, just set the home switcher app to launch when you plug in one of the things in plug in launcher. I set it as the headphones, but it really doesn't matter.
Now that this is done, a force close loop for your launcher can be remedied more quickly than safe mode. Simply plug in whatever connection you chose, choose the stock launcher from the home switcher app, and then deal with the issue from there!
For the record, I haven't actually tried this. It SEEMS like a good idea.... So tell me if it works for you!
