Force website to view in desktop mode?

mx3

Lurker
I've noticed that some websites are extremely stubborn in switching to mobile mode. I've tried Chrome's "Request desktop site", I've tried different browsers, Firefox, Dolphin, changing the user agent, but nothing helps! The website still displays in mobile mode. I even tried disabling javascript in case JS is used to detect screen size, but still nothing. I cleared the cookies, cache and everything. Nothing works!! What other tricks are used to detect whether I'm using a mobile??? The IP address? Is there a sure-fire way to view a website in desktop mode? I'm thinking perhaps using a proxy or something.

Hello and welcome aboard. :)

Usually checking the 'view desktop site' should suffice. Hopefully someone who has more information on this might chime in to assist you.

Some websites don't even offer a "mobile mode" so sometimes you just need to deal with what happens to the site you are visiting. Yes it stinks, but you really can't do anything about it.

I disagree. There has to be something we can do about it. We just need to figure out all the possible ways a website can detect you're using a mobile. I've also tried using a proxy now (kproxy), but without success. So we know it's not the IP address, not JS (I had it disabled), not the user agent, not the cookies, what are we missing??
