Help Forcing JB OTA update

For whatever reason, I cannot get an OTA update to JB. Every time I look for an update, I get something like "Update checking not available now, try again later". I want to move up to JB but can't figure out how to get VZW let me do it.

Have u tried side loading it with the leaked soak test update? Also u nd to make sure ur on the correct version of ICS in order to get the update

that was my first thought, too. you might be on the .215 leak*. the way to check is go to into settings -> about phone and check the System Version - it's like the fifth item down the list. the last three numbers before XT912 should be either .211 or .215.

but, if your error is that the "service isn't available", and not "you're all up to date", you might just have to reboot your phone to see if you can get a better signal, or possibly go to a place with a better signal. i don't think their service has been down for long, if at all, recently.

*did it even leak, or was it mined and released by the community? it's been so long, i honestly don't remember.

I have .211 - signal strength isn't a problem, either. I tap System Updates and get back the gripe that I should try again later.

Try opening dialer and dialing *#*#checkin#*#* then send...then check for update again

The issue went away. Last night, while having dinner at my brother-in-law's place, the OTA update started on its own. I had a solid WiFi connection (I was sitting in the same room as the AP) and the download happened during dinner. Returning to where we're staying (and another solid WiFi connection), the installation was offered and I started it. No more ICS, hello JB. Oh yeah - and all of this is happening in Germany and my current service provider is... Vodafone!

I thought OTA updates could only happen in the US while tied to VZW. Guess not. (Vodafone and VZW are partners, so the OTA update isn't a 100% surprise, but I wouldn't have bet big money on an update happening)
