LG Whiz Kid
You will need a newer version of QPST if you have a 4G capable phone.
Download QPST here
You also need drivers if you have not installed them already.
Download drivers here (they are universal for most LG devices).
Thirdly, you need to know your MSL/SPC code
For MetroPCS phones only:
Download MEID converter from the Play Store or go to http://whiterabbit.org/android. Enter your IMEI/MEID; your IMEI/MEID is found in Settings>About Phone>Status, or underneath your battery. Convert it and now write down that 6 digit number
Other carrier phones:
You will have to use CDMA Workshop or something to get the code. (Yes you will have to use Google.com) There are several youtube videos and posts on retrieving the code, such as this one here (note: you should not have to reboot your phone and stuff unless you have a Virgin Mobile phone).
Virgin Mobile phones:
LG loves to keep you guys away from being able to use the COM PORT. I've seen this with the Optimus Elite and Optimus V. There usually is a way to get the COM PORT working with a hidden menu (dial ##PORT# ), but you usually need to get your SPC code somehow to enable it. This may or may not work for your device:

If that doesn't work, go to your device forum, use google, look through other forums. There usually is a way to get this code.
Once you get your SPC code:
Note that some PCs may completely freeze after booting the phone into Download Mode, just force shutdown your PC by holding the power button on the computer for 5-10 seconds, then turn it back on.
