Help Forcing outgoing email to be non-HTML?

Oh, sorry, but I didn't provide any answer because there apparently isn't one.

I did some investigation and found out that the Gmail app was specifically designed to not send text-only emails. I found this piece of information on several sites, and I then incorrectly assumed that it was widely known. So I figured that I would just be wasting bandwidth and behaving like a bothersome newbie by restating here what I then thought was something that most other people already knew.

But anyway, we're apparently SOL when it comes to sending plain text emails via the Gmail app.

I'd love to be proven wrong about this, however.
