Help Ford Sync 3 / Nexus 6p / Hangouts SMS

Hi all...

Not really sure where my problem lies so I thought I'd post here since this seems related to my 6p.

Basically, I cannot get SMS integration to work with my new vehicle that is equipped with Sync 3 (the newer offering from Ford).

I *think* it is related to using Hangouts with SMS integration... but I can't seem to de-tangle enough to get SMS to be recieved by Messenger instead.

To complicate things more, I'm also on ProjectFi (which obviously further takes advantage of Hangouts ala google voice wrapped into one number).

So... suggestions, anyone out there with a new Ford that has Sync 3 and were able to get SMS integration working? It shows up for me, but I see no messages... and the phone correctly registers as having a MAP bluetooth profile (so it should support messaging). It actually seems like it is setup correctly but the system simply doesn't see any SMS texts going through the system (they are all routed to Hangouts and it doesn't "see" hangouts).

Any advice would be appreciated!

With Fi, there is an extra step you need to take to remove your SMS messages from Hangouts. Go into Settings in Hangouts, then click on your email address, which brings up another page of settings. There will be a section for "Project Fi" and you need to uncheck Messages. Once you do that, you should start getting your SMS messages through Messenger.

Yeah, after posting this I was able to get Messenger working fine (and it does work fine with Sync 3). I guess I'll go back to using PushBullet and Messenger instead of Hangouts... not my first preference, but it does work!
