ford Sync capatable phones

Ok....I have chatted with ford/sync...and reviewed their website. Tried to go to the best buy website which was supposed to have phones more up to date which work with sync - but the site can't be found.
Anyway...I have simple phone now LG Cosmos...which my sync notifies me and can read my text messages through the speaker. I am considering a smartphone and want to be sure it has this feature still....ANY INFO OUT THERE? Ford said droid x and droid 2 today, but check with them last month or month and half and they included 2 other phones (one was fascinate) but they only said the droid x and droid 2. So there are less capatibles? I am confused.

All Android phones, to my knowledge, support most Sync features. I have a 2011 Ford Fusion with the older Sync, and my wife has a 2011 Ford Edge with the new MyFord Touch w/Sync. Her iPhone 4 and my HTC Droid Incredible both work very well. However, the text message feature doesn't work between either phone or vehicle.

Sync has three levels of certification; basic, standard, and advanced. A phone has to be certified as advanced in order to support the text messaging feature. I logged into my account to see which phones support specific features, but Ford/MS haven't figured out how to sort phones by level. Also, they haven't updated the page in about a year. The iPhone 3G, Droid Incredible, and Evo 4G are the newest phones in their page, and none are rated as being capable of using the text messaging feature.

Thanks so much.
What I find so strange is my phone (LG Cosmos) - just a phone, doesn't even do video, works with sync in my edge, and notifies me and reads my text messages to me. I am so confused.

That's because text messaging via many feature phones use the same software method (IE, Brew), so Ford/MS just need to focus on one method to cover many phones. Smartphones use an additional application layer which makes it difficult to fully support it, but the upcoming app-link feature for Sync-equipped vehicles may eventually help with this.

I'm running into the same problem. When my phone is connected via bluetooth I don't get a notification of incoming text.

Is there some kind of work around or app that will at least let my phone give a tone when I receive a text?

Thanks

Just updated my Ford Sync from 3.2 to 3.2.2. Supposedly they expanded the number of phones that work with the text messaging feature. Will report back after I test it.

No dice, the phone has to specifically support the feature. I believe, but am not certain that iOS5 supports it now. Incredible doesn't on CM7 or stock.
