Root formatting / partition SD card? (I'm stuck between ROM's)

I'm trying to install cyanogen mod 7 and wiped my sd card. now the install "won't take"...it won't mount the card, even though it WILL install the card. in clokworkmod recovery

I think the problem is my card. how am I supposed to partition it? I need to do it on my computer since my phone wont boot

I wipe everything. then I install CM7. then when I go to apply it, I get the message "E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)

installation aborted

There is no need to partition the card unless you are a doing an app partition.

You may need to reformat the card, you would need a card reader since you can't get it to mount in clockwork, or you need a new sd card.

this is the message I'm getting in Clockwork after wiping Dalvik Cache:

E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 (file exists)

any idea what that means?

You said you install cm7, then go to "apply it" what do you mean by that? you should just install the rom and reboot.

I usually get an when an error when wiping the dalvik, not sure if it's that one though.

Ps.. You also shouldn't be wiping your sd card, you only need to do the "factory reset" option in clockwork and the dalvik cache wipe from the advanced menu.

I'm trying to install the ROM, but I get stuck in a boot loop

I think I should go back to my nandroid back of virtuos, gonna try that

Also what version of clockwork are you running, it's reccomended to be using the 3.0.0.5 version of clockwork for cm7.

I dunno, I'm not sure how to tell

before I did all this I did a nandroid backup. I'm restoring from that now, hopefully I can get back to where I started

yeah, things appear to be ok in virtuous after nandroid. now restoring from my Backup Root

will try whole process again some other time
