I was reading about the kernel earlier and quite a bit to know about it.

What are you trying to find out? What a kernel is and what it does is pretty basic. There is a lot if you are going to try to do other stuff with kernels like developing.

I am basically trying to learn all there is about rooting, computers and such. A lot to learn, but I'll get it down such as I do with things if I devote myself enough.

Why not focus on first things first? Figure out what you need to in order to root then do that and as you want to try more things learn them as you go. Trying to learn everything before you do anything is kinda putting the cart before the horse

Well, I don't want to root my phone (maybe not yet) but I do want to learn about it and is ROM (read only memory) a term used to describe a custom OS? and does flashing a ROM mean installing a custom OS to the device? Just making sure and not wanting mixed info.

Yes, a ROM is basically a custom OS for your phone.

The firmware is stored on the Read Only Memory of your phone, which is why that became an interchangeable word for firmware.

Scripting is kinda fun isn't it...

I've been trying to find a good note taking program, I basically wanted each entry to be unique.... I'm still not sure if I've gotten it, but I think I'm back to gedit- only using a script to create the file and launch gedit before hand. Should be interesting to see if I use it. ;D
