Foxfi and Gingerbread

Newbie
I had the Sprint store flash my wifes Epic 4G Touch back to Gingerbread after having several issues with ICS... I wanted to try Foxfi so I installed it from the correct website for sprint users and it installed fine but whenever I try to connect to it from a computer, the computer sees the hotspot but just won't connect... I am using Foxfi on my Photon with absolutely no issues.. has anybody else had this issue? Thanks

So, does anybody out there use Foxfi on their 4G Touch running Gingerbread? If so, I need a little help in trying to figure out why mine won't connect. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Sprint blocked Foxfi pretty good. Originally it was only for ICS. I'm taking a guess here, but maybe Sprint blocked it on the GB side finally too? I'm on ICS, so I can't say for sure though.

heres an email i sent foxfi today, ima a newbie with smartphones so all you gurus please take it easy on me if i sound clueless in the email lol...if anyone can help please email me (Address Removed)

heres the email:

hi i just got my first smartphone, a brand new samsung sch-r730(transfix) android with 2.3 gingerbread from cricket wireless...needless to say ima newbie but i understand how to tether via a usb cord n use my data from my phone on my laptop...i downloaded easy tether n that works fine through cricket...but i want to learn how to use my phone as a hotspot without a cord

i downloaded ur great app n the addon app, tried to turn on 'activate wifi hotspot' n it kept telling me it failed n to use bluetooth dun...my windows 7 toshiba L505 laptop didnt have bluetooth so i got a rocketfish bluetooth 2.1 micro adapter at best buy..installed it n paired the phone n lappy no problems, im paired n connected right now...in ur online tutorial for bluetooth dun for windows 7 it shows a 'bluetooth phone operations n settings' page right after you pair the phone, i also have this page on my lappy...ur tutorial page however has more options like 'use your phone to connect to the internet' with a connect button n 'make a call to this number'...my page doesnt have those 2 options, i only have the connect options for listening to audio n use as a headset...why doesnt my laptop page show those 2 options that yours shows?...i also notice when i right click my device(phone) on the 'show bluetooth devices' page on my laptop n click properties, under the 'services' tab it has unchecked boxes for foxfi server n dun, but when i check those boxes it tries to update drivers or something n gives me an error about installation failed...after searching countless web pages for help my head is spinning...so im writing you for help

ive heard numerous dif solutions/theories:
1-need to download bluetooth periphary drivers, then rename them as a microsoft product in 'bluetooth radio' section
2-need to download microsoft mobile center/driver
3-use pdanet combined with foxfi
4-phone isnt compatible
5-open foxfi on phone, change wifi ssid name n add password on phone , then reboot phone, then should work
6-need to root the phone for easier usage n options
7-need to change certain settings on my phone or laptop

ive tried every single one of the above steps(except rooting which im clueless of) with no results n after 5 days i still have yet to enjoy any feature on my foxfi app lol...i hear so many great things from other people about the foxfi service n i wanna enjoy it too...is the problem my phone?...not compatible?...my laptop bluetooth drivers not up to date?...need microsoft mobile center 6.1?...the foxfi downloaded app is bad?

thanks,
jeremy lorance

I'm guessing that since Sprint did the re-flash of GB they could of easily made sure that Foxfi remain blocked.. anyway, my wife is happy to be back on GB.. ICS was causing tons of problems, all of which are gone now.. thank you all for your help
