Help FoxFi tether replacement, disable over the air update

This is my situation. I have unlimited data plan from Verizon and I'm using an LG G5 987. I use to to use FoxFi for tethering. Everything was good until Android 7.0 disabled FoxFi for tethering. I bought a second LG G5. Running marshmallow. I'm looking for help on how how to disable over the air updates so that my phone won't automatically download Android 7.0 and stop FoxFi from working again. Also any other ideas would be very helpful. I saw one click rooting for Android marshmallow. Perhaps this would be useful to me? Does this have native tethering? So I wouldn't have downloaded FoxFi? But I would still need to be to disable over the air update so I wouldn't lose Android 6.0 correct? Any suggestions for getting tethering back on my Android 7.0 or get getting and keeping tethering on the LG G5 with marshmallow 6.0 will be very helpful thank you for your help.

I am long an activist against Verizon. That said, with an unlimited data plan, it does kind of seem like cheating. I would be all for it if you had limited data that you pay for whether you use it or not. Personally, on my pc I could easily eclipse 1 Tb monthly.

That's why you'd be the first to get your service discontinued by Verizon. People who use that much data ruin it for everyone else. Thanks for no help

You are welcome. All my devices are WiFi only. Even my phone.

I'll digress however and let others chime in.

Edit: You could always root it, install custom recovery and a custom ROM.
If it wasn't for the fact that Verizon locks the bootloader. In North America at least.

On 6.0 and below, you could root and edit the build prop to do away with/disable tether provisioning or flash a custom rom that has it removed.
Not sure if this is possible on newer Verizon branded devices running 7.0
I've only owned one LG and I'm sticking with 6.0 on my Motorola till I'm positive I can tweak 7.0 the way I want.

Thanks for the advice how do you disable OTA updates so that you can stick with 6.0?

I'm running a custom rom that has system updates disabled. Basically stock, deodexed, and debloated.
Ironically, I think 7.0 gives you the ability to turn off system updates in developer options.

Best bet at finding out what you can and cannot do with your G5, as well as what custom development is available would be here

Thanks for the link I'll take a look at it. I saw in Android 7.0 that you can disable over the air updates but it's not available in 6.0 thank you for your help
