FoxFi updated for Jelly Bean today !!

FoxFi was updated today, specifically to provide compatibility with Jeally Bean on many phones including several flavors of the Moto Droid such as the Razr and Razr Maxx. This means that the updated FoxFi should also provide compatibility with Jelly Bean on the Droid Bionic. For those of you not familiar with FoxFi, it lets your phone serve as an excellent Wi-Fi hotspot without any monthly tethering charges and root is not required.

I'm as happy as a slinky on a escalator!

The upgrade does work on my OG RAZR, but requires registering a VPN certificate that also requires a screenlock password. I'm not sure I have it set up right. I don't like the screenlock requirement and associated 5 second timeout. Hopefully it's a glitch and will be resolved soon.

I just followed the instructions. I do not view the security certificate as a big deal. My phone has a lot of certificates.

Has anyone found a way around the required unlocking associated with the certificate that FoxFi needed to install? I don't guess I really mind, but I would rather not have to enter a PIN, Password or Pattern to unlock the phone.

Mine only required it once when I want to fire up the old FoxFi. Not every time I lock my phone. Not a big deal to me. Glad it works with the 'Bean.

Settings > Security > Clear Credentials.

However, you will need to reestablish the pattern lock each time you use FoxFi.

I have the Droid bionic and just received the jellybean update from Verizon. I used foxfi occasionally when on trips. Now it doesn't appear to be working, but i am not totally sure. I dont want to get hit with a tethering bill so i want to see how you guys that have foxfi working are doing it.

I have the full paid version of foxfi. I installed the certificate and setup the pattern lock on my phone. When i run foxfi and turn on the wifi tether, it says it is "checking subscription status." Then a key appears for VPN in the notification bar. Then it says tethering or hotspot active and to "touch to setup" but this is the phone's tether setting not foxfi. If i go into the phones settings, and then the tethering & hotspot settings, it shows the Mobile Hotspot box as turned on (box checked). Wouldnt this be what you would use if you wanted to go through verizon and get stuck paying for the internet you already paid for again? Could someone that says theirs is working check their phones tether settings and see if the box is checked? Am i missing something or did something wrong? Thanks for the help and sorry for the long post

Yes, the box is checked while I am using FoxFi, but the Verizon Mobile Hotspot feature is not activated on my account. After I exit FoxFi, the box is unchecked.

I have a Droid Bionic. Just got Jelly Bean 4.1.2 pushed down to me. I had licensed Foxfi working prior to upgrade. now it doesn't work. I have update to latest version of PDAnet+ (4.12.6) and Foxfi (2.12.5). When I try to enable hotspot, all I get is the subscription screen for verizon. no prompt to install certificate or anything. Anybody have any ideas why this is not working on my bionic. Is something supposed to get configured differently?

details:

android version 4.1.2
build 9.8.20-72_vzw-22
system ver. 98.72.22.xt875

Try uninstalling PdaNet+ and FoxFi, then reinstalling them.

I have the bionic with the jelly bean update. I used camera unlock with pin backup. I have uninstalled pdanet and foxfi. Re installed and I still can not get in. It now checks subscription prior to turning on wifi.

Texas said above that FoxFi won't work with Face Unlock. Maybe that is your issue now.

Let me try and clarify the situation with FoxFi. The developers of that app struggled to make FoxFi able to maintain the ability to provide a free Wi-Fi hot spot on our Bionics and on many other smartphones running Jelly Bean. They finally came up with a creative solution using Virtual Private Networking (VPN). You might have used other VPN apps, like 2X Client, to remotely access your office or home computer. All VPN apps install certificates and require secure devices. On Android, that means a screen lock with Pattern, PIN, or Password. Face Unlock is not recognized by any VPN app as securing your device (instead, it is viewed merely as a gimmick, with or without blinking).

So, if you want to use FoxFi, you will need to accept a certificate and secure your Bionic with a Pattern, PIN, or Password. You do NOT need to install PDAnet. That app is not required by FoxFi to create a great, free Wi-Fi hot spot.

Disclaimer: My only relationship with FoxFi is that I am one of their many appreciative customers.

It started working on its own the following day. I was already using a pattern lock to log in on my phone. I assume you are just talking about the lock which needs to be entered when the phone comes out of sleep correct? or is there a point where you guys have to swipe again after starting Foxfi? Now that mine is working, I do not need to enter a code other than my normal pattern swipe when phone comes out of sleep.

I do not know what changed to start working other than the next day I tried it again and it asked to download the certificate. Once it did it worked fine. There is a new icon and screen page that shows up at the top of the phone(tethering or hotspot active), but this may just be part of jelly bean.

Now your FoxFi app is running just like it should. The only pattern unlock you need is the initial screen unlock.

By the way, Jelly Bean took away Sleep as an option. Your only choices now are Power Off or Airplane Mode. I am already missing my Sleep!

I have been having trouble using the foxfi hot spot to access the internet since I bought my new Razr Maxx HD a couple of days ago. I have used foxfi for over a year and it is awesome. I have complied with the directions for the VPN and screen lock however when my network shows up as available and I click next as instructed to "connect to this network" I get another dialog box asking me enter the device ownership password. I have no idea what number they are looking for here. I have tried entering some and it will not accept letters only numbers. Does anyone have any idea where I can find the number they are asking for? :(

Well, apparently the problem I'm having using foxfi is with my dell computer and not the fault of foxfi. When I tell my Razr maxx HD, 4.1.2 to create the hotspot using foxfi it does so just as it always did with my droid x2. But when I tell my dell D830 to connect it wants to know the "device password", (apparently 8 numerical digits). While I was looking for my "device password", with no luck my wife noticed the foxfi available network that was created by my phone, "foxfi69", on her mac. I told her to try and connect. She did so with no difficulty what so ever, just as I used to do and it worked flawlessly. So apparently I have a problem with my Dell D830 in some way wanting a "device password". This puzzles me as I have used foxfi hotspots on this same computer hooked up to several other phones including a Droid x2 and a Galaxy S4. In each instance I have never been asked for my "device password". Does anyone have any idea of how I can work around this or where I can locate my "device password"?
