Help Fragile Screen on Note 4?

Dere

Lurker
I have a galaxy note 4. Mine recently broke, again. My phone fell out of my pocket and landed face up on concrete. My glass broke a little bit but not much . The problem is my LCD screen went immediatly dark and has stopped working. My phone still works, my alarm went off this morning. Same thing happened to my last note 4. I dropped it and the glass broke a little but the LCD screen started to go dark and within an hour was completely black. Is this normal? I feel like everyone usually just has their glass break and the actually screen breaking is rare. But mine has done it twice now, on things that 90% of the time don't event effect it.

Large screens are more fragile than the smaller screens due to the increased weigh and sizes. If you have a protective case for your phone it might have survived the drop.

I have mine in a case. It's falling quite a bit which is why I have the case. But this time it dropped and I guess it was a little to much for it and the glass broke. I wasn't expecting the LCD screen to break as well.

If you have the case then the phone is rather fragile. I dropped my Nexus 7 so many times that all the corners have cracked, the bottom right corner even has a missing piece of plastic but the screen remains flawless.

But it doesn't mean that your phone isn't a good one, you just had bad luck this time.

Yeah. I've dropped it a lot. But same as last time it seems if the glass breaks the LCD screen breaks as well.

So what would you do, will you have your phone repaired by Samsung service center or by a phone shop ? I've read that the price can greatly vary depending on repair service.

Thats something I am not sure about. I know the price is about 250-300 to have it repaired because of the LCD screen being broken. So I am debating about fixing it or just getting the note 5.

I see that a replacement kit (tools included) costs approximately $150 on eBay, I have replaced my Nexus's speakers and my HTC's broken power button so I think I can do it with the detailed articles on websites like Ifixit.

I have never replaced anything on my phone. I looked into a video where it looks like one of the more challenging things to replace.

But if you have neither time nor interest in DIY, better sell it "as is" and have a new device.

Yes it seems that you have to deal with the glued part. But it's common in phones and tablets nowadays. If I want to replace my Nexus's battery I'll have to deal with some sort of glue / adhesive too.

Glued parts can be undone with heat, but have to be very careful of course. Ifixit.com does some sort of special thermal pads, that you heat in a microwave, and apply them to the parts you wish to undo, like the front glass, case parts, etc. Probably had too many people melting their phones and tablets with blow-torches.

Many independent repairers are well practised at dealing with glued and sealed things, from replacing numerous iPhone batteries over the years. :)
