Free Android Virus Scanners tested

Scur

So according to this pdf of a test performed on 7 free virus scanners, they failed miserably. And by miserably I mean that out of the test group Zoner AntiVirus was the only one that could detect more than 1 of the 10 widely spread malicious apps upon installation, and more than 11 of the 172 malware samples already in an inactive state. When millions of people have installed these "protective apps", that's almost scary.

Antivirus Free, BluePoint Antivirus Free, GuardX Antivirus, Kinetoo Malware Scan, LabMSF Antivirus beta, and Privateer Lite all just plain failed. The only one that had any type of rate of success was Zoner AntiVirus Free, which picked up 80% on installation (8 out of 10), and 32% on a manual scan (55 out of 172).

Me? I run Kaspersky, which was included in the test. It got over 50% of the inactive state malware samples and all of the samples that were installed.
