Free data for a tablet for life?

At this point in time, from my understanding, it's only available on certain tablets (or at least that's what their website seems to infer). Also, it seems that you can't set it up yourself currently since the ability to is not on their website, so getting it activated on a phone seems impossible because a store rep would obviously see it's not a tablet.

The problem is that there is a lot of configuring on their end for this plan that we as customers don't have access to via their website. The process I went through at the store was very different than typical sim card activation.
 
just be careful, yes its free 200mb but think about how much that is, android seems to use at least like 50 a month by itself. and with social networking, web browsing, app downloading and updates, on a slow 3g connection, you can easily download 200mb of data in under 30 minutes, and that is all you get for 30 days

if they sign you up for.some account that gives you overage charges whem you pass 200mb i dont recommend it at all, mind you if they just shut it off after that by all means its great to have around in a pinch im sure

They can't charge me overage charges because I never had to give them credit card info and I paid for my sim with cash. I'm not sure if they cut you off or throttle you to 2g speeds like they do on every other plan though.

T-Mobile has stated that it is a flat 200MB of data, after you have used your data it is cut off.

When looking for the FAQ where I saw it was a flat 200MB of data, I found this: "Free Starter Data: Avail. every 30 days as long as you have an active Mobile Internet account on eligible device. No roaming. Usage applied first to passes, next to Starter Data, then Mobile Internet allotment."

So it appears that the 200MB of data is on top of any other data plan you might have on the tablet.
 
I have a sim in my TMobile Samsung 7.0+, but haven't used it for a few months. I'm getting the free data without doing anything, but it doesn't show how much I've used. I set the tablet to GSM only since it's on wifi most of the time nowadays. Here's a speed test on edge in Chicago. Not bad.

This would be an interesting backup for those guys that do everything over wifi, though one would probably need an international phone. I'll try to try the tablet sim in one of my AT&T Notes when I have a chance. Neither of them were recognized by TMobile.

Don't know if it's a glitch or if it's meant to be that way, but either way that's pretty awesome.
 
wait .21 mbps? thats roughly 20kb/s, which is like 3 1/2 times dial up... thats not exactly light speed, ur signal is traveling at the speed of smell my friend, but hey for free ya cant really beat it

Yeah, it seems he's only getting edge. I have it set up on mine and was getting LTE without issue.
 
but wait they let you use 4g lte with a 200mb limit? you could probably hit the barrier.in under a minute if you tried hard enough
 
Indeed, I think the point of the plan is to serve as a teaser because most would go over it and thus entice you into buying more data. Most people buy WiFi tablets rather than mobile data enabled and just tether it. I can get by with 200MB of data because WiFi is so readily available and it would only be needed in a pinch, as you mentioned.

I'm not sure nice is the word, smart probably works better. They get some people to try T-Mobile who otherwise wouldn't have and a couple of things can happen: 1) as was stated, they use their data and want more, so they buy data packs from T-Mobile and/or 2) they find that T-Mobile service is pretty good where they need it and, when their current contracts are up, move their phones to T-Mobile.

It is a pretty smart move to get customers to at least try T-Mobile, and likely will lead to people switching.
