Free VoIP Calling Using Google Voice + Sipdroid

This question is for snrb and all:

I am using groove ip 1.1.3 and google voice, and try to dial into the conference call. After the prompt for "conference id", the id is always not recognized. I test the call using the mobile network, everything is fine. I am using LG optimus V phone, any idea to address this? Thanks a lot!

Hi,

1.1.4 should have a fix for that.

I am using the latest version of groove ip and have problems hearing the other personj, ...they also have problems hearing me, ...any ideas? ...using the lg optimus v ...thank you.

Sorry I thought I had posted on here. So is it OK now for me to post / get a number on sipdroid and then go to pbxes to complete the setup?

I was trying to read through the posts to make sure I do this properly. I have Android 2.2.2 and a Google Voice Phone number on a Dell Streak 7

Thank you!

Just in case anyone is interested. I posted an app to the market that does Google Voice VoIP. It's called GrooVe IP. It's $2.99. Link is http://market.android.com/details?id=com.gvoip

I'm here to say that this is the way to go. He has hooked directly to Google Chat. You can place outgoing calls and receive incoming calls via your GV number. No SIP s**t with its thousands of crazy options and quirks, no dealing with flaky SIP servers and gateways.. just a working GV phone on your 'Droid.

Trust me on this - I have played with every SIP phone out there, and I did some of the development of CSipSimple. I run my own SIP server and phone system (3CX) here. I know what's what. And GrooVe IP is the cleanest way to get alternative/IP phone service for your Android.

If I recall correctly, the problem with groove ip, for me, is that to get it to work, it says to disable your cell phone as a terminating point on you gv settings.

Of only want to you groove ip sometimes, but most of the time get my calls from gv using my cell minutes.

Seems like going back and forth would be a huge pain.

Man, I hate to be another problem post, but I just can't get this working for some reason. I understand GV, Sipdroid and even a bit of PBXes. I also followed all directions in the OP perfectly. I've read this entire thread and made sure everything was tested; no luck.

HTC Incredible - Verizon with Unlimited Data & SMS Only Plan

When I try to make a call I hear, "The call cannot be completed as dialed, please try again later." and get disconnected. When I call my GV number, it rings for a while, sometimes, though it doesn't ring my sipdroid and then just sends me to voicemail.

My email is d01000010.hacker @gmail.com (I know, I was in highschool; you just don't think about consequences in highschool.) so when I click the button inside of sipdroid to create my PBXes account, PBXes does not take d01000010.hacker as an account name; I have to remove the "." to get it to accept it. Does the username have to be exactly the same as my email?

Everything else seems to be setup correctly. I get green lights on sipdroid and my GV is set to forward only to my GTalk (I have a data only plan and would like to be able to make the occasional phone call.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. I can provide any information you would like.

EDIT: Spaced my email; maybe I wont get botted that way? lol

Went through all the steps. Trying to dial through sipdroid and not getting any kind of tone or ring. Does someone have a decent guide with instructions and not just posts? I read nearly this whole thing and everyone is saying the same thing, but nothing is working. Seems to me like PBXes is turning off the free services. Anyone got some brighter ideas to eliminate pbxes and narrow it down to just two apps for making and receiving a call? Feel free to email me mfries30 @ gmail.com I'm not using service, just using wifi only access.

Thanks,
Mike

What you can do is give your GV# to some and your cell# to those you want to use your minutes with. Groove-IP will go through Google Voice, and anyone that calls your cell# will go to your cell. Groove IP automatically switches to the cell network (turns itself off) for any call that comes to your cell#, and then turns itself back on when your call is over. When making a call you can set it to prompt you as to which service you want to use (I always use Groove IP). All calls go to your regular call log. If your at home on Wifi, call quality is exceptional, if you're on a decent 3G network call quality is "typical" cell quality (hit and miss). From some of the compliants, I think GrooveIP works better on some phones than others. I have an Optimus-V, worked good from the beginning.

So, I just got GrooVe IP and I have to say, it was perfect! No configuration required. All you need is a Google Voice number and GrooVe IP and your good to go! I can make and receive calls for free with it. I highly encourage you to try it if you can't get any of the other guides to work.

I agree. I managed to get Google Voice & Sipdroid working, but it was a struggle. GrooVe IP worked "right out of the box". (And no subscription fees!)

ok, so this thread has become extremely cluttered.

I have the following set-up for in-bound calls to my google voice number.

IPKall account
PBXes account
GV account
MIUI ROM SIP settings
(i used to use SIPdroid - but the MIUI settings work just fine)
my GV account forwards to my IPKall # and boom, it comes thru just fine.

I want to place outbound calls, from my droid x, using my google voice number AND ONLY using data - NO voice.

previously, i set up GVoice Callback app, which used my IPKall # as the callback, so I call, answer, let it ring, and im connected. w00t.
however, this displayed my IPKall # as the caller id (320-something)

if i use the calling feature of the Android Google Voice app to dial out, my Google Voice number is displayed on the caller ID, but I believe this uses my actual minutes, and not data, for the majority of the call. is this correct? if i want my google voice number to appear as the caller id, while using just data connection, i follow the weird OP post about using Google Chat??

I am very confused. Thank you.

The original thread post really needs to be updated. The process the OP described was made entirely redundant by the release of GrooVe IP. Jumping thru hoops with IPKall and PBXes is thankfully no longer necessary.

GrooVe IP does exactly what you want, make & receive calls using only data (and your GV number appears as caller ID).

This is great information, but can you tell me if it will work if: 1) my Verizon Droid Incredible is "Locked", and 2) if there is no longer Verizon service on the phone ? I now want to use the phone as a VOIP "device" on Wifi only. Do you think this is possible, or am I wasting my time ? Thanks for your ideas in advance.

GrooVe IP will work fine with just wifi working on your phone.

This will be no problem at all. I have 2 or 3 unactivated VZ phones that I use purely on WiFi and I have set up to receive/make VOIP calls. I suggest using Groove IP, as BrianFX mentioned.

Hi Guys, Please help, I have followed the exact steps, and got it partially working. I have Google Nexus S on Sprint. GV integrated, so my GV number is same as Sprint number.

I have got incoming working like a charm even in airplane mode.
However for outgoing it keeps on ringing but the other phone never get a ring.
I went and looked into call monitor and saw something like this:

Date Time Caller ID Number Destination IP Trunk Context App Duration Recording
2011-08-19 23:12:02 "Sipdroid" <200> 3156012144 ool-457eb5a9.dy*n.optonline.net Gtalk from-internal-cont Dial 00:00:00

Can anyone help me get the outgoing work?
Thanks

I'll have to assume your using SIPDroid, and not GrooVe IP. I suggest you use GrooVe IP. It literally works "out of the box" without having to mess around with settings and such. By out of the box I mean you install it and enter your Google login and your set up. You will be able to receive/make calls no problem. With SIPDroid it is more complicated, and while I'm sure you could eventually get it figured out, it might not be worth the effort, and might be unreliable (at least this is my experience with SIPDroid). From the (admittedly limited) testing I have done with GrooVe IP so far, it seems very reliable and should save you a lot of headaches.

I have used sipdroid on my droid x successfully but it won't connect on my doid 2 global using froyo. Are they compatible?

Rochelle

This is great, but has anyone had success checking other voicemail systems. I'm unable to check my work work or home VM.

It just tells me login incorrect.I wonder if it's the tones or something.

Thanks for any assistance
