Root FreedomPop brings back Evo 4g !!!

Hey folks, I know this phone is a bit dated now. But FreedomPop customers will probably be coming this way to see what they can dust off and use on their refurbished phones from FreedomPop. I know many have moved on, but I see some life here and hopefully devs can bring some goodness or dust off what they already got here?

Thank you in advance!

Just received my phone and flashed Classic rom/kernel along with CSipSimple to replace the FreedomPop app for integration of Google Voice number, customization of SIP features, and improved battery life, I am still gonna get an extended battery off Ebay though.

What SIP credentials did you use to circumvent the app? I'm using the Internet Calling feature of the stock Dialer for Google Voice, but if I could replace that with my FreedomPop info, that would be ideal.

When you say replace Freedompop app, can you kill/turn off SIP widget for freedompop messaging app? This app eats up 70%+ off battery, even with 3500 mAH extended battery I can barely get passed half a day and it's just sits on wifi and mobile data, almost no use at all.

What customization did you use? Would you mind sharing details on what you did to improve battery life? It's an amazing device but battery life with Freedompop messaging app just makes it unusable.

Just go to the link I posted above and that will explain everything. In fact it has just been updated with 2 different options now!

Edit: Here is the link without Google integration. But first thing is to update your freedompop app as they just changed user names for your account!

Just got my EVO 4G from FreedomPop. Nice device, dreadful battery life. I see the xda link above seems to refer to the Epic 4G Touch. I guess I should assume the same basics apply to the EVO 4G? I'm going to do more reading about this before I decide how to proceed. Has anyone had trouble with a Freedompop phone as a result of rooting? I saw that mentioned elsewhere (I think someone wrote in to FreedomPop forum), but not sure it wasn't just some kind of user error.

I was able to use FreedomPop over WiFi on a KitKat ROM, so I'm confident it works. As long as you activate the device while on a stock ROM, you can run pretty much any ROM that will run on the device.

You are correct. I had to revert back to the stock rom to reactivate and extract the info from the .db file after freedompop did some backend fixes on the network. I am running the "classic rom" which is smoother and has better battery life with the XDA instructions.

I don't know how to flash, but I just got this phone and service a week ago and the it's been horrible. Dropped calls, software hangups and all kinds of problems. Skype seems to work very well on this phone, but it uses the data. I signed up for unlimited voice and text with 500MB data for $11 a month on FPop and I have a subscription on Skype for unlimited calls to US and Canada. Just wandering if the phone could be flashed to integrate Skype? I also have a Skype number, so I can call and receive calls from all sources as I do now on my tablet, but without using WiFi or data.

That is not possible since FreedomPop uses a sip client that uses data but separates the voice minutes data from the data used for internet.

You can get an additional 500mb of data for getting freedom friends here:

Thanks. I most likely do that or run some offers. I will ditch the paid plan for the free plan and call it a wash. Maybe something will change in the future to let me go back.
