Root Freedompop Force..

Anyone have any experience with the ZTE force on freedompop? I ordered one, since it was $25. It should be here someday soon, and I was wondering...How's the unlimited plan? I'm in dire need of something half decent for tethering at home, since we have no other options, i've been searching for the best option for years and this unlimited popped up, and it's cheap. They say they throttle to 3G speeds but it doesn't seem like the same way VM or Boost drops theirs down to .15 mbit, rather, FP just gives you whatever speeds you'd get on 3G. That sounds pretty good..

Any root methods for the FP Force?
 
I was able to use towelroot for a temporary root, and then install supersu for permanent.

FreedomPop isn't unlimited unless you're paying, make sure that's what you intended to do. The free plan comes with 500mb. I made a post in the non-r00t forum about an issue with our phone that will drain your data.

Which is the best version of towelroot I can use for this? I'm definitely going to use the unlimited plan. That's the whole reason why I even considered it, and the price.. Can you tell me your personal experience with the unlimited plan, and how they throttle after the 1 GB of LTE?
 
You guys know what - the FreedomPop ZTE Force comes with CWM Recovery already installed... Just press VolDown while turning on, and you'll get to CWM, an can flash any root you want from there, like this one http://download.clockworkmod.com/superuser/superuser.zip

Or you can flash a new ROM, which I did (this one: http://androidforums.com/threads/rom-force-stock-b13-deodexed-unmodified.839159/) which brings bluetooth calling back.

LOL, holy crap. Way to save me all the effort of figuring out how to root this! I just got mine last night and haven't really touched it yet.
 
Yup, I can confirm that my ZTE Force came with CWM as well. Interestingly, there's no wipe data/reset option. Well, there is, but the only choices are no. I had to format system and data manually in order to flash 4.1.2, but it works just fine.

I had a feeling that they used a custom ROM for their "kitting" process since they don't exactly use a standard system of things like other MVNO's. This will make it WAY easy for me! awesomesauce! I plan on only using it for internet since tethering is my only option... never live somewhere rural.

I hope it works well. Can anyone confirm what kind of speeds they get on unlimited after 1 GB LTE used?
 
Freedompop is alright. I use it because it's so cheap.

The problem is that it has SIP based calling, so it doesn't use Sprint voice network (it's voice over IP).

I have had it awhile now on galaxy s4 and it has issues. Calls not coming through, problems with receiving texts at all or very late. Terrible call quality on the other end (people can't hear you).

It can be made better. The good thing about the Android version it's much more customizable than the iOS version.

You can set partial wake lock so you will be more likely to receive calls while asleep, change the network settings so that it won't time out, set the codec used on 3G or 4G to one that is higher quality so that you can actually get people to understand what you're saying.

As soon as I get a real job I'm going to quit using it. Right now it's great bc I only pay $2.50/mo for voicemail.

The biggest annoyance I'd the frequency with which I don't receive calls.

Junkie2100 caught them (ZTE) stalking the forums a few times and almost immediately coming out with updates that mirrored fixes SuperR & Junkie2100 wrote.. Just a Heads up!
 
LTE speeds are good where I live. Around 22mbit/s. Faster than my cable modem, but I dunno about after you've exceeded your LTE limit. I've heard that it's 2G.

If this was my only internet i'd be over 1GB so fast it would be pointless. I have used as much as 25GB on 3G (and edge) tethering back when ATT still had unlimited plans and I was out on a boat for work for 28 days at a stretch.

I got 25/8 on LTE and after the throttle kicked in I get about 2.5-3/1 as 3G speeds. I'm staying with them! This is fantastic! Perfect price point! Other MVNOs could learn from these guys. 2G speeds need to be left in the 2004 dirt where it belongs

You should save yourself the $3 and switch over to Google Voice, and use Hangouts Dialer. I don't even have the FreedomPop app on either of my FreedomPop phones. It presumably uses less battery life, and calls are clear, even on 3G. The only issue is there is typically a bit of a delay from when you click answer to when the phone call actually starts. Plus, it's nice to have the same number no matter what device I'm using.

Great to know. I'm at 800 MB so far after a week and a half. I switched away from Virgin Mobile because when I hit 2.5 GB, it went from 20-30 to 0.06 at the throttle point. Ridiculous.
 
Hello all. I use the phone for data only and I am a heavy user since I do not have internet at home. The phone is set to 3g only because 4g is bad where I live. The first three months the phone worked very well. I could get very good sped to watch Netflix or amazon prime movies. I could even watch these on my tv via chromecast. Average use per month was well over 9GB. However , I my 3G clearly slowed down this past week. Netflix buffers all the time. I believe they started throttling my 3G. Is there a way to prevent this? I found info for boost but nothing for freedompop. Thanks.
