Help Frequent lock-ups and update failures

Genericiz3d

Lurker
Hey everybody,
I am very new to the Android OS, and I have been trying to fix some issues with my girlfriends Galaxy Tab. Even with the light use it has had, practically every application will become unresponsive randomly, most notably the generic browser that came with it. In an attempt to remedy the issue, I have tried doing any sort of update (Firmware, Profile, Android, and whatever the hell PRL is) and all that I get is a failure message that reads:

"The Firmware update could not be completed. Please try again later.
If the problem persists, you may need to contact Customer Service
Error: No Service Error"

I am connected to Wi-Fi when I try to update, so I don't know what it means by 'No Service Error'. The Tab was purchased sometime last November for her birthday, and apparently she has been having the lock-up problem ever since.
I have tried doing a search for my specific problem but I can't seem to find any thing that helps. I am hoping the issue is something simple that I am overlooking due to my ineptitude at the new OS. I am not sure what to put down as far as the Galaxy's info, so if I leave anything out that would be helpful, just let me know.
