Hi Sean!

I'm an artist and I just bought the HTC Flyer specifically for drawing. I do comic books and what I really need is to do the line work for my drawing (I render my backgrounds in 3d, then draw the characters over the "set"). This is a perfect app, but I am looking for a couple of things and I was wondering what we can do about them:

1) I saw you addressed this elsewhere, so I'll simply add my voice: I really need landscape on this :D)

2) I read your post about Gingerbread having limited size, and I understand (And I know that for some inexplicable reason, HTC chose to launch the flyer with Gingerbread, but they promise Honeycomb at some point in the future) If there is any way to load 1131x1812 somehow, when you can, you'd save my entire life! (Right now I can only draw when I'm at home, at my computer, with my Wacom tablet, and my 1 year old leaves me alone... needless to say, I'm not drawing much these days :) )

3) (Here's the nasty one) Nothing supports HTC's pressure-sensitive super cool stylus... they released the SDK for developers, but no one seems to realize that we are out here. I can't get Autodesk to even answer my messages, and ArtRage isn't even on Android. Honest, if you could somehow make it so it supports that stylus... I'd kiss your feet! ;). This is so important to us handful of Flyer owners that we've all pretty much said if you make it, we'd pay a good price ($10? $12? That'd be okay, we understand we are a kinda unique breed right now - It should be noted, though, that HTC is producing a 10" tablet soon as well, with the same SDK and pressure sensitive stylus, so perhaps there will be more of us, soon! :D). I'd be cool if you couldn't get the pressure sensitivity, that would be just fine, as long as it uses the pen tip so I don't have to "finger paint"... it's really hard to get any kind of precision at all with those capacitance stylus'. If you can do this one, though, you'll have every artist that bought the Flyer instantly, because we are all very VERY frustrated that the hardware is there... but there isn't any software at all for this neat little tablet.

I bought the Pro version of Fresco because even if you can't do this wishlist, you are listening to us, and working a whole lot faster than the big guys. And that I really want to support that more than anything! :D Thank you!

I'm working on it! I'll probably enable it for tablets first and then work on the issues for doing landscape mode for smaller screens later.

Android has strict limits on how much memory your app can use before the app gets killed so this issue is tricky. Generally, higher resolution Android devices have more generous memory limits so the canvas size in Fresco is currently set to the resolution of your screen (e.g. 1280x800 on Honeycomb). It might be possible to let you sacrifice some layers for a larger canvas size though.

I've had a lot of requests for this actually. The SDK isn't out yet but I signed up to the mailing list the other day. I imagine it shouldn't be hard to enable the pen as an input device and set the buttons to switch between tools. I'm not sure why the pen is only enabled for the bundled apps at the moment.

Thanks for upgrading. I'm glad you like the app. :)

I guess since the news in May was that they were releasing the SDK soon... I figured we'd have it by July... Wow... It's almost like they want their Flyer to fail! :( But that does explain why no one can work on getting their pen to work... I'll go complain (I'm sure I'm one in a WHOLE lot) to HTC, not that I expect it to work, of course... :(

Anyway, I guess if I knew what my limit was, I could cut my pages up and do the work that way... Also, I only need two layers, really, the background and the linework layer (I'll do the coloring on a computer that doesn't require a pen :D). I know this sounds odd, but do we know how big the file limit is? If so, could you maybe put the file size up on the corner and then as you do things, it updates that file size until you reach the limit? That way we know that when it reaches, say 10,000kb it will be bad, so it turns red or something at 9,500kb and starts flashing. You know then that you have to delete layers or something to get back your storage.

Either way, thank you. :D

I twittered and emailed HTC today about the Flyer SDK and I was told it would be out "this summer".

There's a way to retrieve what the recommended maximum memory usage of an app should be. Generally, it's around 24Mb total for a phone and around 50Mb for a Honeycomb device. I'd prefer if I could add variable canvas sizes without overwhelming the user with confusing memory statistics however.

fantastic. if i could draw, i'd definitely buy it :D even though i cant, im still tempted. lol

+1 So that painting in the OP was drawn ON the tablet using the painter's fingers???:eek:

Great app :) Might be something I'll look into when I get a tablet...though it won't be utilized very well, lol.

Nope, the two paintings in the OP were drawn on a Droid Incredible with a 3.7" inch screen. :) Watch the trailer for a time lapse animation that shows how they were created.

sweet! incredible, really. haha. the only app ive seen that comes close to this is magic doodle.. this is way better ;)

I've updated Fresco Lite and Pro on the market. Changes:
- Color picker tool now grabs the color you can see instead of ignoring pixel opacity.
- Fixed problem where exported images were not visible in external picture gallery apps.
- Fixed crash that sometimes occured when returning to the app.

Hello sean! I hope you are still reading this :)
First of all, thanks for creating a very nice drawing app! Im enjoying it!

What i was wondering though, is this application, and especially the implementation of the HTC Flyer SDK still on your radar?

I just bought an HTC FLyer, so im really looking for that one app thats perfect for my sketching, inking and coloring needs! :D
