Help Fring does not work when the screen goes out

If I try to make calls using Fring or Sipdroid over SIP or Skype, they work well until the screen turns off. After that the audio coming in is choppy and broken. The people on the other end say the audio out is fine. It seems as if the phone is sleeping, but then why on Earth did I approve permissions for these apps to keep the phone from sleeping?

This is not too big of a deal, buy it is annoying to have to continually press the power button to reawaken the phone so that I can keep talking.
