Froyo 2.2 Canada!

For Bell, i think it should be sooner then SaskTel, seems that SaskTel wants a branded firmware. On the other hand My Bell Phone is unbranded, meaning the folks at Samsung wont have to make a version just for them !!! I stick to mid-december its 3 weeks away not a big deal, Im just afraid that they post pone arriving dude date just like they did with the european version. My 2 cents, is that its propably going to be delivered early January 2011, because you really think people are going to work around just for us in the holiday time, i would even say ending of January at best

This is why Google is wanting to get rid of custom firmware. I know people might get tired of "Vanilla" but at least everyone would get updates faster...

according to:

Samsung Mobile Canada We’d like to acknowledge the tremendous interest in the Froyo (Android 2.2) upgrade for Galaxy S series smartphones in Canada. We are working diligently to provide a tested and secure upgrade experience in Canada. Android 2.2 will be released for Vibrant from Bell and Captivate from Rogers in mid-December, and for the ...Fascinate from TELUS in early 2011. We’ll post further details as they become available.

-- this is from their facebook page -- look them up and you will see their posting... another month to wait for us canucks :S

I'm OK with the delay, but to put this on their "FACEBOOK PAGE"? REALLY!!!

I mean does Bell have High school kids running their ops or recently divorced women? And does it really need to make friends that badly? :p

This is the last time I buy a Bell phone. Slow updates and Facebook communication?...

Do you get the impression that they want to time the rollout so if the internal SD card breaks under Froyo, it does so closer to the one year warranty period? That's my take on the delay. I replaced my motherboard after playing with 2.2 already. I may sit on the sidelines for the first few weeks to see if its worth taking the plunge again.

how do you want to break a solid state drive ??????? 2.2 beeing delayed has nothing to do with that, imagine 5 million users trying to download 2.2 on their phone, would cost $ for bandwidth and you gota have a heck of a server. you had to change motherboard coz you didnt know how to properly flash your phone and you bricked it ! sorry to tell you this, but there is no conspiracy

Conspiracy no, but frustrating that Bell is one the last ones in line to update.

Also there is NO EXCUSE for their lack of communication to their consumers. Why should anyone have to create a Facebook account just so they know the updated status of their phone? Every company has a support page on their website...

Why doesn't Bell get the some of the guys from this forum and XDA to code for them. It seems like there are versions of JPO out there that are very stable (Like mine) and many mods that also work well.

I have had JPO on my phone for a couple of weeks and I am very happy with it. Everything works perfectly, even the GPS. On Quadrant I got 1859 the last time I ran it, so I am happy with that as well.

I have flashed my phone about 10 times since I got it 3 months ago. I was looking for the best I could get. I am not a patient person, so waiting for Froyo was out of the question for me. I also want the newest and best, that's why I went from a 9 month old iPhone 3G to my SGS.

If anyone is interested, here are the JPO files I have on my phone now. MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service. Can't remember where I got them, but they are working great.

I used Odin 1.52 and the 512 pit (Included).

As far as plans go, I am with Telus and I have 200 anytime minutes, free nights and weekends, unlimited calling and texting to my favorite 5 numbers anywhere in Canada , 500MB data (I only use about 200MB/month and I had them include call display and voice mail for free. My monthly total is $55.

Yep XDA already figured out JK4 using the registry hack.

I would want to do that myself but I want as little strain on the Internal SD as possible... :(

perhaps i should have bought the NexusOne

Yeah well now that's even gone to ****.

NexusOne isn't available by Google anymore and now the new Nexus S isn't even available to AT&T users. Plus Gingerbread looks to be available on that phone before we get Froyo.

Yep all is good...

Hello all just got off the phone with Samsung Canada and the girl told me it would be with in a month for the update, because of all the trouble with it. Just wondering if anyone else got this information.....thanks

I work for Bell, and I have recieved this notification as well. It says that it will be available tomorrow, but I'm going to try later tonight or even midnight to see if the update is available.

Question is: I have rooted my phone. Do I need to do the factory reset in order to successfully update my phone?

Rooting usually isn't a problem but I would still un-root it first. If you have applied a lag fix, you have to remove it.

It's already out, installed and running on 2.2 from Bell thru Kies couple hours ago.

Yep, just updated to 2.2, no muss, no fuss.

I really like the new keyboard with the numbers along the top qwerty keys. And I'm not sure if the feature was present before, but if you hold down the period key [.] you get a lot of choices like comma, apostrophy, dash, smiles, etc.

Anyone have to do anything special to make Kies work? Win 7 32-bit with Samsung Galaxy S and my F-ing kies won't see my phone. ****ing crap product! I may go blackberry if this crap keeps up.

Froyo is running flawlessly as mentioned above. My only problem is that now i can't transfer my contacts to pc with Kies. Always get a failed message. Got to figure this out. Everything else is perfect.

all my apps got automatically backed up including contacts for me !!! only had to place my widgets and shortcuts back !! As for the dude talking about buying a BB go ahead ! if you are loosing patience with an Android Phone, you are going to loose your mind with a BlackBerry I had 3 blackberrys, only shit they have better is the email function, wich sucks an Android ! but other then the email you cant do shit with you BB, install correctly, your problem might be simple click settings >applications>development> USB debugging should be unchecked

GOOD LUCK
