well let me just tell you all. i got mez in november, constant freeze ups, phone #'s disappearing, icons going invisible. i complained and talked to tech support 6 times and did factory reset 4 times. resets did not help. got froyo 2.2 update. ok phone works better but now wont connect to laptop windows 7. had it!! asked for replacement phone. got it in 1 day, great. new phone already updated with 2.2. then found out this counts as my 1st replacement out of the 3 i get free. why? not my fault phone had issues. now wait it gets worse. got new phone, wont connect to my laptop. finally connected but willl only connect as modem and not as mass storage? call tech they are working on it. dont know why it wont connect as mass and yes i selected ask on connection. tech will contact me when they uscc figures out. now the good stuff. i'm missing phone calls now. come to find out samsung knows this and they sent out defective phones as replacement phones for software issues and yes i got 1 of the phones that misses phone calls. call uscc tech, have to wait 1-3 weeks before samsung will have a fix. what 1-3 weeks. temp solution, "get an old phone and activate untill fix comes out or deal with it". have a greatttttt day:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: hey how is htc desire?

I understand the frustration in your rant.

The Mez has been a frustrating mess for many, and a promising device that falls short of potential and expectations for others.

I have the same phone I got back in October. It doesn't have nearly the level of issues that you have experienced, but it has had its fair share of annoying issues. It still does enough stuff very well that I hang on to it. Until USCC releases a better Android device, this one is still the best in the lineup. Warts and all.

As far as the "already used 1 of my 3", that's how it goes. The plan is designed to help you when you get a phone that doesn't meet your expectations. No company will give you unlimited replacements. And no company is going to give you a brand spanking new phone for a warranty swap. Almost every phone I've ever received in a warranty swap has been a refurb. Its just the way it goes. I even received a "refurb" once that Cingular forgot to factory wipe. Still had SMS messages and contacts in the phone book.

As for the mass storage issue...have you downloaded and installed (or reinstalled) the Samsung drivers? If not, I would try that. Especially if you had the Samsung drivers before you updated to Froyo. If you downloaded the "mini Kies" app over any drivers, I would uninstall mini kies and then reinstall the Samsung drivers. If you don't have them, download them from the Samsung site, not from USCC.

As far as your missed calls issue...since you've had it on two separate devices, I would begin to look at where you are when calls are being missed. If you live in a rural area, or are in a market where USCC isn't known for spectacular coverage, that might be the culprit. The Mez has a good antenna, but its not the strongest one out there. My wife's Blackberry, an ancient 8300 curve, gets better signal than my Mez in many places. I have missed calls from time to time because of it.

I actually started with an HTC Desire and absolutely loved it when it comes to functionality. Everything worked flawlessly and much more reliable than the Mezmerize. However, the Desire had a much weaker antenna and would not get reception at my apartment where I previously had no problem. I have no problem with reception with the Mezmerize at the same place. The Desire also had problems with getting too hot. So in my opinion, the Desire is hands-down better on phone apps/functions/usage if reception is not an issue for you.

well uscc sadmitted that missed call issues have been verified by samsung. i have decent reception where i go. samsung admitted to the screw up. as mass storage i was on phone with uscc tech for 2 hrs he had me go to samsung and dowload drivers. get this i still have original phone that was froyo updated and it hooks as mass storage to my laptop. maybe fix for missed calls will fix mass storage non hookup.

I'm not doubting USCC "admitted its Samsung's fault". I would just take that with a grain of salt. If you were being paid $10/hr (or whatever they get paid) to sit in a call center and field "unhappy with my phone" calls all day long--what would you say? If it comes as a shock to you that sometimes they tell you what you want to hear so you'll hang up, well, here's a cold bucket of water for you.

That's not to say USCC customer service is bad. My personal experience is that its pretty good. I've just learned that I have to be "schooled up" on my issue as much as possible when I'm talking to them so that I can detect the "please go away" statements.

The reason I say this is because if the missed calls issue was truly "Samsung's fault" it would be a much more common issue, and you'd see threads like this all over this forum, the Captivate and Fascinate forums.

I'm not as familiar with those boards as I am this one, but we haven't had too many "missed calls" threads in here.

I need to see more evidence of recurring issues with missed calls to "blame Samsung".

Trust me, there is plenty to hammer them about regarding these phones. As I've stated before, this is probably one of the most "failed to live up to potential" devices I've ever owned. So I'm certainly not defending Samsung.

I loved my mesmerize when it was on Android 2.1. Now that I've upgraded it to 2.2, I'm nicknaming the phone "Crashy", as it has become massively unstable. I'm wondering if it's a problem w/the phone or a problem with 2.2, as other friends who upgraded their phones (different models and carriers) have complained of similar instability. I fear a factory reset is in my future, and if that doesn't fix it, I'm really going to have problems. I haven't rooted it, and I've deleted the daily updates widgets and uninstalled Advanced Task Killer already, do we know of any other troublemaker apps?

I've had the same missed call problem. My phone will never ring then all of a sudden voicemail alert. I would say 80% of the time when I plug in my charger it says USB connected. I to went round and round with USCC because the 2.2 update fried my phone and they wanted me to use my phone replacment to replace my phone for a problem their update caused. I got tech support to put notes that the phone was to be replaced with a brand new phone, so I march into my local corporate store to get my new phone. The store actually says ya thats what the notes say but we are not gonna do it. Needless to say we call tech support ,get a manager on the phone and they make the store do it. So this brand new phone is having the same issues ggrrrrrr. So you are not alone

Wife's phone is having the same missed call problem. The phone will not always ring. If I need to talk to her I have started texting her and asking her to call me. She is having the same issues with friends and family calling her too. The local US Cellular store was dumbfounded. Hoping someone had an answer here.

My store swore they had heard nothing of the problems and I was the only one. I told go to the phandroid forum. Then they tried to talk techy about something they knew nothing about lol. I set em straight thoo lol. Sadly all these issues are making me think of jumpimg back on the windows train. I mean really USCC says they waited so long to release the 2.2 so it would be perfact. Well epic FAIL USCC (wagging finger at them) shame on you!

My wife's company gave her a new blackberry yesterday. Sadly, it isn't even a 'cutting edge berry, just a 9330 3G curve. But it has the 6.0 OS.

As much as I like all the gee whiz things the Mez will do, I find myself wishing the Mez would do the "core smartphone fundamental stuff" as smoothly and simply as Blackberry and iPhone do.

Give me iPhone's fit and finish, Blackberry's email management, and the Mezmerize's display and customization abilities, and I can make a perfect smartphone.

I've been having the same problem too.uscc said that samsung has been working on an update for the issues and that they were already suppose to b out last week.he said should b any day.hopefully

I wish I had a nickel for every time I heard a cellular store rep say "the update was supposed to be out last week".

I would own my own nationwide wireless network.

So I take it that they say it alot.lol.figures

We could start a completely separate thread. "List your favorite line of cr@p dished out by a store rep"

Don't get me wrong, there are good ones out there. But some days it seems easier to find a 4-leaf clover.

well called uscc today and talked to customer relations wondering about the "samsung" fix. first got 25.00 credit for troubles plus phone number for samsung. have not called yet. cust. relations agreed also to have me go to local store and i could exchange my mez for any other droid phone just as long as the phone was either pre-owned or in other words phone returned by a user under uscc 30 day trial program and would cost nothing and have full factory warranty if i desire to. will put off for a few days and call samsung. reset phone got mass storage corrected bu still misssed calls a issue. will see

well samsung fix is out but have not had the time to get it. has anyone got it yet and is worth my time to deal with it?????

Yes I got it.my phone seems too b doing berry good.the only problem with the fix is it wipes your phone. But no missed calls.and no battery pulls yet

I got the update also. My phone has been behaving better. I have some freeze ups once in a while with a screen shot and have to pull the batterry. But this is my third replacement phone, so who knows what problems it had before I got it. I am assuming it is a reconditioned phone.
I was informed by a Tech from US Cellular that- pulling the battery too frequently could do more damage than help. She stated that This is a new finding. She said you should turn off your phone instead. Although that is not always possible, of course.
I am not in the habit of turning my phone off and back on, on a daily basis.
I have decided to live with the "screen shot freeze glitch" for now. I really enjoy the phone too much.

well got samsung fix yesterday. we'll see! anyone have problems with taking flash pix and screen going blank and having to hard reboot to get phone back on. has happened 5 times 3 times before samsung fix and 2 times last night.
