Help Froyo battery drain Samsung Galaxy S

Nope!
But I never tried to start/stop airplane mode. Honestly I never ever touched airplan mode :rolleyes:!!!

I start the battery charging soma hours ago with cell off and the battery was full. I removed the battery, inserted the plug and replaced the battery and it has restarted to charge (it seems it's need to charge the last row of battery again).
Hoping to solve my problem..... Thank for your suggestion
 
i have been facing the exact same problem . during usage it seems like it's draining a percentage per minute!

i tried clearing up all the stuff in ram using the systempanel level2 clean up . but this didn't sorted anything . it's turning me off since my pal who owns a galaxy says his device's battery time increased with the update.

p.s. i need to keep auto rotate on cause my fingers just dont work well with the regular pad .. but that shouldnt matter since before the update .. i could run my cell easily for around 1 day and 10 hours.. with wifi on most of the times and auto rotate on

I got the same thing after going onto Froyo. After 8 hours standby and 20 min. talk the battery was dead. Previously with 2.1 there was no problem at all.
Here is the story.
1. Got the phone with 2.1, battery lasted 1-1,5-2 days
What was running: 3G Exchange server, emails on Push mode, 24H a day.
battery handled it, no problem.
2. Upgrade to 2.2 with Kies thru Vodafone not to loose the guarantee.
3. After upgrade the phone crashed several times, after hard reset (loosing all your data... and apps), only the calendar crashed from time to time... as the least important app!... :(
4. After normalizing the OS, the battery issue came up: with 3G Exchange server company emails and moderate talk time (1h) it lasted 8 HOURS!!! At 3 pm. it was dead so I stood there with no phone. i read all the forums, turned all the background processes off, used all the tricks, etc. no result...
(BTW is there a way to have this phone making noise when the battery reaches a certain level, so people can act? THX)
5. Phone goes back to Voda to repair and comes back saying phone has no defect... all parameters as it should be... But they put a new version of the 2.2 onto it, real factory thing... not he Kies like junk.
6. Phone in use again, speed is increased HUGE, happy me but with same Exchange and some talk time at 3pm. the phone has gone...
7. Phone goes back to Voda again saying with 2.1 has no problem so they either put it back to 2.1 or give me another phone which is usable...
8. Phone comes back with 2.1... same apps back again with similar talk time and see the miracle: at 3pm. the battery is 72%...

I don't know what's wrong with this Froyo thing but it is sure it is far from perfect.. :(
So I'm sticking with 2.1 for a while now, I'm not what to do...

Yes, this battery drain on 2.2 is making me think of going back to 2.1 as well. I've tried all fixes mentioned in this thread, with absolutely no change.

I was using my phone to navigate last night in my car, with the phone plugged into a charger while using it. Navigating using Google Maps Navigation actually drained the battery faster than the charger could charge it. I had NEVER seen that before, through six different smart phones.

My battery life sucks, and using any process at all, like Wi-Fi, uses 1% for each minute used. Ridiculous.

If I have to EVERYTHING turned off ALL the time to have any battery life, then why have the phone at all?? I should have never gone away from Apple. Sorry to say it, but true.
 
I don't have 2.2 but I figured out what the main causes of battery drain were on 2.1 with a Samsung Galaxy S. I almost returned the phone the battery drain was so bad. I would go from 100% to dead in 12 hours or was using about 8% and hour. Everytime I looked to see what was using up the battery it was split between standby and display if checked overnight even though the display was off all night. I turned off 3 G and just used wifi and my usage dropped to 4% an hour most of the day and night. If I shut off 3G and wifi overnight my usage dropped to 1% an hour. Forget about turning off all the other bells and whistles and don't waste your time. Those are the two main sources of batter drain, at least 2.1. Try it with 2.2 and see what happens. Now I have control and I like my phone, matter of fact it is great!
 
Hi everyone!

I'd like to share my experience with Galaxy S I9000T in Mexico with local operator.

I updated from 2.1 to 2.2.1 JPY unoficially.

My first trouble was related to contacts app. It was crashing every minute. After a (not-so-little) search I realized that this problem was due to some wrong management of contact data. So I backed up my contacts in Kies, erased all contacts from Galaxy S, reloaded them with Kies, and the problem was gone.

But when I thought everything was right, battery life was dramatically low (about 5 hours!). Then I noticed that turning on airplane mode corrected this (non-viable solution after all).

Turning the phone off and on again appeared to solve the battery issue... until I tried to connect to Live Messenger via Samsung's IM. 3G indicator arrows were working all the time and won't stop.

I have to say that I didn't do a wipe/reset factory as recommended in the forum before the update. So I updated again, this time with a factory reset previously, but the problem still appeared.

So I went to settings--- apps---manage---Social Hub and I forced to stop and then I deleted the data from this app, turned the phone off and on and... The problem was gone!

I reloaded my accounts data (Live Messenger, Yahoo, GMail,) and now it connects easily with no problem.

Now my battery lasts nearly 2 days with moderate use (Facebook and Twitter checking 5-6 times a day, Live Messenger connected, mail check several times a day, ocassional gaming, and, of course, several phone calls a day).

I'm not an android expert, but it sounds to me to a wrong update of operator data that tried to connect to 3G all the time or something like that, with the consequent battery draining. But now I'm enjoying Froyo and it's benefits and the battery issue was gone.

Sincerely I hope this helps, as this phone is a great one and it's so weird under-using it turning off some features that differentiates it from a common phone.

I'd just like to note that like, 95% of the people here are being useless :-\. I didn't read most of the posts so I don't know if this was answered, but based on what I did read, people were suggesting some pretty far out there shit, like downloading analyzers and shit to look at what's draining, etc. Meanwhile there's no process, it's a hardware draw, so it won't show up under any of those.

It's the wifi sleep policy, it's supposed to be set that when the screen goes off, the wifi goes to sleep. That's how it was standard in 2.1.

I was experiencing the issue with my galaxy S which I updated yesterday, burned through 44% of its battery in 5.5 hours today (with minimal screen use/interaction). I just set it back to 'display sleep' now, and I can almost guarantee that will fix it.

With the 2.2 push, it sets the wifi sleep policy to 'never' - so the wifi is ALWAYS on. If you don't know anything about radios in general, transmission (such as wifi) costs a SHITTON in terms of power.

So:
Settings >> Wifi settings >> Advanced >> Wifi sleep policy >> display off

I could not find this setting on my phone
 
I had the same problem with poor battery life (8-9 hours).
Phone crashed a few times within a few days so got it sent away under warranty.
Phone came back with new PBA and software upgrade to v2.3.3 (gingerbread).
Now i go a day with wifi and GPS on and battery% drops to around 80%.
My work collegues have 2.2 and have the same battery usage problems i used to have.
So either a fw upgrade or main pba replacement is needed :)

I was reading through your entire thread. Not once did I read a solution. Amazing, that Google Techs do not intervene in these discussions. I am an iPhone user. I have been for many years. I still own an iPhone 2G and works perfectly. I have an iPhone 3GS as well.

My GF has the Galaxy S Vibrant. When I found out that there was an upgrade to Froyo. I jumped the gun and installed it for her. She was thrilled till it started to drain the battery. She first thought it was a bad battery and she bought some new ones. The new batteries are draining much faster. I check task manager and noticed she always has Skype on. However, that should not make a difference.

Now, there are many possibilities on how the battery can drain.
Did anyone check the benchmarks of the hardware compatibility on the Galaxy S for Froyo? Of Course, it's compatible. its like putting an newer OS on an older hardware. Also, can it be the multitasking. Many people have notifications on. For example, Google Voice, Email, Facebook, Twitter and etc. This also drains battery life.

We can continue asking questions on why the battery drains and never get any results. To really thinks about it, why should we turn off anything. Thats why anyone has a smartphone. so we can be in touch with our friends and loved ones. We should have wifi on all the time. And when we leave a wifi zone. it should turn off the search automatically.

FYI. for those of you that have Notifications on at full blast. Check your settings, you should have it at Fetch not Push. Cause its checking all the time. I am speaking to the unemployed. Why do you need Push on. Just check it manually.

So tell me forum, why is it draining the battery life? is it the OS, Hardware, Apps, old batteries, Notifications, Enabiling your phone to be a wifi hotspot or is it just YOU?
