Root Froyo CM7 to GB Vortex. Battery life increased by 266%!

Lurker
Hi All,

I have been a lurker in these forums for quite some time. Last year when GB went OTA, i SBF'ed back to Froyo 340 so i could root the photo. I also installed CM7, but my battery life seemed to have suffered. Also after the phone hit 30% battery it usually died within an hour.

With Froyo:
Light Usage: 16 hours
Heavy Usage: 12 hours

Was too lazy and never got around to upgrading to GB when root came around. Last week i finally got fed up and looked through a bunch of posts and finally found a ROM i liked (Vortex) that didn't have bugs and used the blur camera. I SBF GB .605 and installed the rom.

The first thing i noticed was that after my phone hit 30%, it didn't die. It was steady! Just to make sure i calibrated the battery going 99% - Dead, and full recharge. Now:

With GB 605.:
Light Usage: 36 hours
Heavy Usage: 28 hours

Now i don't have to keep plugging it in the car to recharge between work and home.

There may be a lot of different reasons for the sudden increase in battery life, but can't be sure since i didn't approach this in a scientific manner. Here are some possible reasons:

1. Cyanogen Mod 7 is a battery hater
2. Calibrating battery is good
3. Gingerbread fixed some battery problems in their .605 release
4. Vortex ROM saves battery

In any case, i feel like i got a brand new phone and won't be tempted to upgrade anytime soon, at least until iphone 5 comes out.

Thanks to everyone who posted info that I read here to SBF and choose a ROM.

Just curious, did you ever try calibrating the battery while running CM7?

nope, but at the same time it was a completely fresh install of Froyo with CM7 - and i did the 99% - 0% and full charge - and the 30% was still happening from the very beginning.
