Help froyo for galaxy s help

please someone help me im going mad here

i have the latest version of kies i plugged my galaxy s in and yipppeeee i found the firmwear i needed clicked the box and clicked update and sat back very happy waiting

then nothing my phone that was in the top left hand corner of kies has disappeared kies was hanging and nothing i had to go to task maneger to get anything working again please help what am i doing wrong

i have vodafone contract and windows 7
