Frustrated...

First of all apologies for yet another "my battery life is pants" post. The fact is I'm loosing juice at a fast rate and can't fathom out what the crack is. Juice defender installed, auto sync off, wifi off, the battery is leaking power like a rusty bucket.

Your feedback/advise would be much appreciated.

All the best Blenc

What does it say in about phone > battery use? Any app that is caning battery when not in use? I had to unsinstall somthing last night because of that.

If you just bought it, the battery usually just drains like anything in the first couple of uses. It's normal. Then it will build up and discharge less.
But yes, if you are comparing with the 'dumb' phones (as opposed to the smartphones) batteries don't last very long because nowadays phones do a lot more than the older phones used to do and it requires a lot of battery.
Your best option is to buy a better battery or just get used to charging it often

Juice Defender usually makes things worse unless you are the type that just lets your phone suit idle for long periods.

!on, can't see anything in 'about phone' suggesting any app is thraping my battery.

Caro, I've had the phone around 6 weeks so was hoping to get better battery life than I have. As an example, this morning when I started using the phone in 1.5 hours 18% gone.

Gmash, just killed JuiceDefender, wasn't making a difference as you suggested.

All, how do I identify what is sucking the guts from my battery, can I find this on the stock menus or do I need an app.

Thanks guys.

Which phone do you have?
If you go to settings there should be a battery option somewhere in there. That's where you'll find the stats. Usually the biggest battery eater is the screen, especially if you have a live wallpaper.

Its supposed to be in menu>settings>about phone>battery use. If for some reason this does not exist in your phone, try downloading PowerTutor, let it run in the background for at least 15min, then look under "application profiler".

But which phone to you have? Some phones are better with batteries, some of them need an extended battery desperately. Usually task killers don't really help in my experience. I've only solved issues with battery life when I got power banks or extended batteries.

What phone and version do you have? Back when I was on gingerbread I would have to keep the GPS off unless I needed it. It would constantly activate and drain the battery.

Chanchan, power tutor not good for s3 can you recommend any other decent apps that do the same

Greetings Blenc1,

Welcome to the forums.

If you look under system settings, you should find the battery option. Clicking this will allow you to see what app or system function is using the most juice.

Did you install a bunch of apps recently? One of those could be the culprit.

You could try uninstalling and then reinstalling apps one at a time, to see if any start
giving your issues.

Do you know if you have 4g lte in the area that your in?

The lte radios are notorious battery drainers, especially in low to no coverage areas.

If you have no lte or it's bad where you are, turning off the 4g radio can help with battery drain.

The S3 can't turn 4g normally, so you need a app to do so. Phone info will allow to set your phone to just 3g or whatever band your using.

In phone info under device information, you can set your phone to use which ever service is best.

Hope this helps.

Blenc1, you don't say what rom you have or how quickly your battery dies.

Like has been said already, screen brightness & 3g are the main draw. There are widgets that let you toggle 3g from the homescreen.

If rooted & with custom rom like cyanogenmod, you can modify the auto-brightness settings outside of the defaults. The built in power & notification widgets can be modified also. It also comes with recovery built in which includes the ability to alter voltage & clock speeds.

Ditching the task killer will save battery, android does that itself. Some custom roms allow long-press on the back key to kill an app.

Thanks for your feedback guys, much appreciated. I'm looking at your recommendations.

I'll let you know that's again.
