Full size SD card reader

Hey guys,

I have the usb adapter, and a microSD card reader I use with it. However, if I plug in my full-size SD card reader (it's one of the fancy ones that supports multiple card types ) I get a message about it being high-powered device and it doesn't work. Does anyone have a full-size card reader they've gotten to work with the usb adapter? Thanks!

i mean where are the people? that is so sad this forum isnt active is it true that android users are less than ios ?
 
I've used the multicard reader adapter with no problem, and so has my boss. We both use the usb adapter from Samsung. I also have a full size card reader that's just the SD card reader and no problem reading it. It's just a cheap Targus card reader that I picked up from Walmart that reads full size SD cards and also has a microSD slot. No problems here.
 
Thanks guys! Must just be something about my model then. That's what I was hoping, I just didn't want to go buy another one without having some idea whether it'd work or not. I'll probably just grab one of the cheapo ones, I don't even need to multicard reader part of it.

I missed this thread earlier, but I think the reason why some larger readers don't work is they require a power source. Normal USB devices are limited to 500mA of current and ports can be less. If you plug in a device that draws close to those limits, the USB port will not provide enough juice to run the device. Plugging in a Y-adaptor USB cable and a powered device like a powered USB hub (has its own AC adaptor to power the hub) will provide the added juice needed for the device to function properly.
 
I need it on the go, though, so a powered hub doesn't really help. If other people have gotten readers to work it must just be that they're close enough to the limit that some go over and some don't. Fingers crossed the new one will work. :) Worst case I'll just buy the Samsung SD card adapter, but I'd be better to have one I can use in a regular PC as well, and not have to carry around 2 adapters.
 
Ha, figured out my problem. :o I got a new reader, and had the same issue! I was so mad. Then I realized that both times, I had grabbed the closest SD card to test... my Eye-fi card. The issue is the card, not the reader. So apparently it won't support the Eye-Fi cards in the reader- but who cares, since I only use it in direct mode from my camera anyway. But regular SD and SDHC cards work fine now. :D

That's good to hear. I read about someone else using a multicard reader and it worked fine too so I guess most should work then.
 
I too have the USB adapter and I can plug my camera into it, but when I plug in my thumb drive/SD Card reader, it I can not seem to find the files. Any help on how you access files and specifically where they are (directory structure) - greatly appreciated.

Yup I had the same problem :) I don't have it in front of me, but I think it's under sdcard/storages or something like that.
