Not to get too far off-topic (but I will anyway):

A couple of years ago I developed a condition called Central Sleep Apnea. Unlike Obstructive Sleep Apnea, which is a respiratory condition, Central Sleep Apnea is a neurological condition: my brain doesn't tell my lungs to breathe when I'm unconscious. One can imagine the terror of waking up suffocating and gasping for air... and not knowing if they'll even wake up at all next time. I'm convinced that it developed over 25 years after toxic exposure in the Gulf War - nonetheless, the VA issued an Adaptive Servo-Ventilator to me. It's like a CPAP machine on nuclear steroids: while a CPAP machine can track about 15 sleep parameters, the ASV can track over 120 parameters. If I stop breathing at night, it will gently breathe air into my lungs and keep me from dying. I don't know who developed this machine, but they deserve a Nobel Prize or something.
