I detested that stuff... still do, in fact.

Indeed, if that were what all candy was like, I would never eat candy (and I admittedly do have a big sweet tooth!).

I watched one of those "how it's made" sort of shows years ago and a segment was on making different kinds of hard candy. It's kind of an art form. We always had hard Christmas candies and unshelled nuts this time of year. It was just part of the holiday.

We had those also, but the biggest bonus was the extra baked goods (my mother was always baking {she would d send baked goods to random military personnel overseas} something good) in addition to the normal treats.

My mother made great Martha Washington candies for Christmas. I was a teen before I realized the adults got the rum spiked candies and us kids didn't. My aunt who lived in town made the best divinity in the entire world. Both made good peanut brittle. There was always an abundance of all kinds of goodies leading up to Christmas.

Yeah I remember Peanut brittle as getting a gift from everyone, with my cousins still around, it fits perfectly so my sister and I really enjoyed it...
