I remember standing in the hallway to use the phone which sat on a shelf built in a stud cavity with another shelf below for the phone book.
I can remember checking to see if the phone cord (we had one that attached from the kitchen wall phone out the back door into the driveway, or through the dining room to about ¾ down the hall to the bath room.) so we wouldn't get "clotheslined" while running in for a drink. While at the same time we had to be sure we didn't trip on the near 100 ft cord for the desk phone that went from the back end of the hall through the front room, dining room, kitchen, wash room and out the back door into to the driveway or through the patio door into the garage. (We lived in a corner house and ma was almost always on the phone.

I can remember just having to dial 4 numbers in my grandmother's town. It was kinda hard for my 12 year old me to understand.
FOur wow you are so lucky, we had one of those window shades with everyone's number stickers on them.
I had to remember the area code, the three digits and four numbers after that...
I was about three when I had to remember my home address and everything aye...
