g1 adb help

hi there im following the tutorial to get cyanogen mod on my g1 right now however i have downgraded to rc29 (i think thats the on) and im trying to activate without a data plan over wifi which requires you to set up adb
i have done all the steps and enter the setprop persist.service.adb.enable 1 and the hardware recognization changes then i enter adb shell in the command prompt on windows i get a "device not found" error how do i fix this
plz help i hate my blackberry i need my g1 back
 
well i would totally use that if i could but the fact that i don't have a internet plan is kind of a problem
is there anything i could have done wrong? i really miss my g1
