Help G1 Black Screen

THE SOLUTION!!!

Try a factory reset, it fixed the phone for me!
To do this is simple:

1. Power off the G1
2. Hold Home Key + End key for 20 seconds or until you see a "triangle with an exclamation point and a picture of the G1"
3. Open the QWERTY keyboard and hit Alt+W
4. Restored!

To do a soft reboot, simply hit the Home+Back buttons when you reach the "triangle with an exclamation point and a picture of the G1" screen.

Hope this helps!

I had the same problem and this fixed it for me, thank you!!! :D

I had the same problem being described here when running Cyanogen 4.2.14.1 and I flashed Cyanogen 4.2.15 and it solved the issue.

Also had lots of graphic glitches when switching layout from portrait to landscape.

Again all fixed running the different rom.

as of last night i started having the same issue.
it started with screen went dark and wouldn't come back. so I rebooted and the screen remained dark and never booted.

I did a soft reboot (grn+menu+red) and then held (home+red) to get into recovery mode (still black screen with back light on. hit (alt+l) to get to the menu and flashed a factory reset. (not recommended without a data plan on phone)

as of now the phone continues to not boot, so when i do power it off, i go though the above sequence though instead of factory reset just do a soft reboot (grn+menu+red) and the phone boots up.

however, now when the phone is left inactive, or the screen times out and goes black, I struggle with button combinations to bring it back. ive de activated the screen time out, and once i watched it literally fade to black.

ive no idea whats causing this its an original phone bought one of the first ones off the line and haven't had a single problem up until this point. running all factory updates, no mods, very few applications, definitely not any in the last several months.

Wow...this is the SAME EXACT problem i have. And i turned off the screen timeout, yet the screen still fades after a few minutes. WHAT DO I DO!?! Been having this problem for a week and I'm glad I came across this forum because it seems like everyone is having the same issue and I don't have warranty on my phone so it would be pointless to go to T-Mobile. Someone please find a solution. =D

Has anyone understood how to solve this?
It happened to me from one day to the other. And it keeps happening. I've done a hard reset, put a new recovery, a new ROM, formatted SD card, everything and it keeps happening.

Sometimes even in the splash screen. I have no warranty either... Can someone help, please?

Think i have a solution here. My milestone was having the same issues at some point. The homescreen is an app. The lock function is provided with memory to work by the (at that moment) active home-app. Most of the standart homescreen apps that come with your phone (like androidhome, htc home, motoblur, etc.) Haven't got the ability to manualy control the reserved ram+processorspeed. So sometimes when you installed some regular apps(updated to 2010 versions), your memory will get full when you use your phone. When you would get it from screen-off the unlock function will simply lack ram and knock out.

This is an issue google should fix. But theres a small (temporary) solution available..
Go to market and download an app called "launcher pro". It's free (there is however a paid one with more features).
After install, push the "back to home" button and select make default. Then click launcher pro.
First of all click the "options button (under your screen) and select preferences (not settings). This will take you to the launcher pro settings. Now click advanced and after that memmory ussage settings. Activate the light preset (and make sure to select build caches [default in light mode] and prevent crashes to).
Click the back button several times until you are back on the (empty home screen). [Don't use the homebutton to get out of settings. That won't safe your changes). Now restart your phone (the regular way) to make sure that the old home-app has no active processes anymore.
Now just fill your new screen with the widgets you were used to. (In the prefrences menu you can preform settings for the number of screens, docks, etc).

If you still got issues try some other presets and restart your phone.
Or look for the big speed and ram suckers and uninstall them (or autokill them by your taskmanager)
