g1 update help

i just got the g1 like a week ago and i still have the firmware 1.1 and i herd that 1.5 has video recording but it does not say there is a update available please help lol.

I am a new member of this forum and i need some help..
I tried to update my G1 to 1.5 with the tutorial Sweed gave:
"How To Manually Install Android 1.5 Cupcake"
I downloaded the update.zip file, put it in my SD card, reboot my phone and after pressing alt-L and alt-S something went wrong :(:(

Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
[COLOR=Red]E: No signature (409 files)
E: Verification failed
Installation aborted.[/COLOR]
Anyone knows what is the problem here???
 
sounds like your using an unofficial build and your not rooted.
you can only use official builds if your not rooted
find an official google signed build

Is there a way to make my G1 rooted???
Or is there any good/easy.to.install official google signed build???
 
the google signed builds are the easiest to install.
I can't right now, but if you can't find it I'll dig it up for you.

I'm not the one to talk to about rooting since I still haven't rooted my g1 (I'll do it eventually xD) but once your rooted you can use custom roms that weren't made by google, like cyanogen or the hacked version of htc sense on your g1.

did you ever find it?
to get updated to 1.5 follow step 3 (only step 3) with the download given there.
after you've don that you'll be at 1.5 and i'll explain how to get to 1.6
