Galaxy 3 contrast vs s2?

So I JUST got my Galaxy S3 and compared to my S2 the contrast is not as good.
I'm very surprised to see that the blacks are not BLACK like on the s2.

I really thought the screen would have the same level of contrast with the deep black.

I have the same screen saver on both and also tested apps that have a black background and there is no comparison the s2 is much darker on the blacks.

Anyone else notice this or do I have a bad phone?

Have you tried adjusting Screen Mode? Settings> Display > Screen Mode

Hmm...there is screen mode located in Settings> Display > Screen Mode
I do have the AT&T version...not sure if that should make a difference or not.


The closest thing I see in there to Screen Mode is...Auto adjust screen tone (which I have de-selected)

Screen Mode makes the colours more or less vivid including presumably black.

Thats odd? I am in the UK but Screen Mode is mentioned in the User Manual. If you tap Display then scroll down the screen you see
Then you click Screen Mode and see this

Dynamic seems to produce the most contrast.

Ya ATT version doesn't have it. Which I don't understand why that option would be taken out. I'm sure that the other US versions are probably the same.

I would like to know if people that have T-Mo and Sprint have this option or not.

Yea, that's pretty disappointing. Even messing with the screen modes on my unlocked GSIII doesn't yield the same blacks as my Epic 4G Touch.

Perfect example...I used to love Night Clock on the GS2 since all you would see in the dark were the red numbers. Now I have that annoying glow from the screen, same as would be from an LCD :-(
