Hello there Steve and welcome to Android Forums. :)

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your device I moved your thread here where it will get much better eyes from members here who have this device. Well, to me it sounds like a faulty battery if it can barely hold a charge, but what's odd is that it turns itself on. When charging it does it get to 100%?

Welcome to AF. Which ver of firmware do you have? & how long do you charge it for? Usually it might require to be charged for 1.5 hrs (for me) also you should get a notification beep around that time & the screen should tell you it fully charged (100%), thats when you disconnect the charger. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks I've got a new battery on order, also it does get to 100% but from say 15% charge to !00% can take as little as 10 minutes. thanks steve.

Hmm. If you have charged it till the notification beep then I guess it must be a battery problem but make sure you are buying the genuine battery as a spurious one can be dangerous. Yes Gingerbread is the name of ver but even in that there are many 'flavours' eg 2.3.4, 2.3.6 etc. When I bought my phone it was 2.3.4 then there was an update 2.3.6. To add to our misery difference regions might get different ver number eg some regions have even got 2.3.5. Anyway you have answered the main question & the answer narrows down to a battery problem. BTW Dont make the mistake of leaving the phone on the charger overnight many have done so & later regretted it.

I had 'exactly' the same problem as you're having just two weeks ago. It was the battery. Mine was slightly bulged, and I'm glad I checked it when I did, since charging a bulging battery is dangerous. I got a replacement battery for about ten bucks on ebay. The retail stores were asking $50 for it. When you dispose of the old battery, make sure to do it the right way. Don't put it in a fire or throw it in the regular garbage.
