galaxy ace superuser issue

after following the intstructions on how to root ACE GINGERROOT ZIP.
on my samsung galaxy ace
I now have the superuser icon on my phone, but there is nothing on it,
I downloaded a root checker and it tells me that my phone is not rooted it would appear that I have busy box but not superuser access have i done some thing wrong?

Someone please help me im at my wits end trying to figure it all out and really need to make some space on my internal memory as the phone is running so slow
Im a total noob at all of this there has to be some one that can help me please
