Galaxy Note 4 constantly restarting after water damage

Bluedream48

Lurker
So I dropped my galaxy note 4 in the bathtub yesterday. When I noticed it, I immediately took my case, screen protector, back, battery, and sd card out and threw it into a bag or rice. After reading things that told me what to do, I placed the phone, battery and sd card in front of a heater in low for half an hour, rotating every five minutes so it hit every angle, then put it back in the bag of ice for 24 hours. When I took it out, it turned on fine, I played with it for a minute or so to see if anything was wrong. The screen kept operating on its own, pressing apps so fast I couldn't do anything, and then it would restart, turn on, then after about 30 to 60 seconds, it would restart, and it would do that in a loop. I took the phone back apart, and threw it back in the bag if rice for another 6 hour. I just took it out and it started up fine, this time without the screen glitching out. But it still turns off and on in an endless loop. Everything I've read keeps telling me to put it in safe mode (though I don't know what that'll do if it got damaged by the water, which is probably the case), but it won't even go into safe mode. I tried four times to hold the power button and then the down volume key (as was directed by every forum or website) and it just turns on without going into safe mode, which results in me having to pull the battery out in order to keep it from constantly restarting. Is it too late for me to take it apart and look for any remaining water?

Does anyone know what I can do? I mean, if I need a new phone, then I need a new phone. But I can't get another one until Friday and I use it for school and to clock in to work.

WELCOME TO ANDROID FORUMS Bluedream48 !

The good:
You did just about everything one would to salvage their phone. :thumbsupdroid:

The bad:
Not enough patience.Should have either waited a bit longer before using the phone again,or take the phone apart more in-depth to dry out,or,taken it to a computer/phone repair shop for disassembly/thorough drying.

You could still do the latter, but, chances are the phone has seen its better days & likely justa matter of time before it gets worse.

Ice? bad idea....

and, if only using Rice, you did NOT leave it in the bag near long enough to absorb all of the moisture.

it takes minimum of 48 hours, and I prefer 72 hours to for Rice to absorb moisture....

If you have already put the battery back in the phone "too soon", the damage is done.

The reason apps are working by themselves is because there is still moisture between the digitizer and the face of the display....

you might have a chance to fix it yet.
get a Vacuum pump, a cheap one works fine.... Harbor Freight, any auto supply store....
get a gallon jar with a metal lid on it.

at the auto store, get a brass hose nipple with threads on it. punch a hole in the metal or plastic lid for the 1 gallon jar.

you can solder the nipple in, or just glue it in... it is a Vacuum, it will seal tight.

pump the vacuum down to 26 inches of Mercury.... the pump should have a dial on it, if it don't leave it in the store, get one with a gauge.

Once you get the gauge pulled down to -26 inches of Mercury (that is what the meter indicates) leave it that way for 3 hours....

now, the phone is ready to go and test it again.
it most likely will work.
