Galaxy Note / iPhone 4s

I know that this will be biased so I'm going to ask on the MacRumors forum as well but this is my question:

I've had a Galaxy Note for 7 months now and I'm just getting a bit frustrated with it lagging and apps crashing etc. When I got the contract my options where this or the iPhone 4s. I've now been offered to swap my GN for an iPhone 4s. And it's very tempting.

Help, what are your opinions?

Hi samfranklin, and welcome to AF :)

TBH I'd visit our Galaxy Note forum and give them a bit of detail about the device (network, software version) and what sorts of problems you are having. That doesn't sound normal to me, so there's a good chance someone can help.

I'd note that iOS devices suffer app crashes as well - I've encountered them when helping friends with iPads and iPhones. They just do it silently (you find yourself back on the homescreen), so not everyone realises that's what has happened.

Personally I find the sizes of the two devices so different that I find it hard to think of them as competitors. The Note is too big for me, but if I wanted a screen that size I suspect I'd find the iPhone's screen (almost 2 inches smaller) frustrating.

But it's up to you. Think about what is important to you, and choose the device/OS that suits you best. The key is to find the device you'll be happiest with, whatever that is.

have you tried a factory reset first? give that a try before thinking about swapping. My phone acted a bit crazy when it upgraded to ice cream sandwich a while ago and a reset was all it needed to sort it out. Plus, with jellybean coming to our Notes soon it has project butter on it, so should make your phone "lag" free. Also, have you got any task killers installed, or battery savers like juice defender? They can cause lag most times.

Me personally, I would never swap an android device for an iphone. Couldn't stand to have the same boring identikit homescreen to everyone else. i like freedom and creativity like this...

I want your home screen!

I came from an iPhone 4S and I loved it, but the apps crashed as well and sometimes there were lags. I did have to factory reset more than I would have liked to.

And honestly I wasn't looking for a new phone, I was looking at the Samsung Player for my son and after much research, I ended up reading about the Galaxy Note. The size grabbed my attention, the swapable battery reminded me of my pre-apple days and the expandable memory was a super plus. But the size was the number one reason I left Apple.

Since coming to Android I've had apps crash and I hate the way it handles MMS. But I love my Galaxy Note. I buy what I like and need so when the troubles come, they do not outweigh the good. But truth be told I will say I had equal issues with my Apple, nothings perfect, just pick the features that you MUST have and get the device that has them.
