Help Galaxy Note not recognizing SIM Card?

lincapa

Newbie
Hey all, I got a Galaxy Note (GT-N7000) yesterday from my uncle, and I have a weird issue with it:
I tried to install my HOT Mobile SIM card, but the Note doesn't recognize it. What could cause that?

(baseband is: N7000XXLB1)

Are you inserting the sim card in correct position? The cut end should match the the cut end on the tray.
Are you sure that it was working with your uncle? If yes then you might be interesting the card in a wrong position.
Another possibility is either the card is damaged or the slot terminals are damaged.
Try another card.

1. Yes,
2. His SIM card works
3. if the card is damaged, my other phone wouldn't recognize

If you haven't used much, then try to reset the phone in recovery. Or through settings. ROM has nothing to do with the sim operation. Before reset backup your documents and photos etc.

I reset the phone with the SIM card installed.
Could it be that it doesn't know how to read an HSPA+ SIM?

How you found that? Good that you found the cause.
I took the device to a repair shop, they suspected that the SIM slot was damaged. i asked them to repair it, which they did.
I asked what was wrong with the slot, they responded that one of the terminal leads was damaged/broken.

I'm upgrading the device as we speak (4.1.2 is the last version the device supports AFAIK)
