galaxy prevail say its charging when its unpluged

I have only had this phone for a few days.it was an early birthday present from my sister. Well it keep saying that its charging wen I unplug it.n if I turn it off it wont turn on unless its plugged in.it also keeps overheating. Any ideas on way I should do....

I would have to agree with Rush - take the phone back to the shop... they'll be able to sort it for you!
