Hello everyone,
I have my nephews Galaxy S and I am having some issues getting it to allow me to perform a recovery. Evidently his "friend" went to unlock his phone and managed to just about brick the thing. I am not super familiar with how all of this stuff works, but I am willing to try. After doing a whole lot of reading and some trial and error, I have found that the only way to get this thing to boot without a loop into a screen that has any potential at all, is to remove the battery, hold both volume buttons, and plug it in to the USB from the computer.
The only problem is that when I go this, the computer recognizes that it is plugged in, but Kies (using kies because I just want to factory restore the thing) does not recognize the phone once it is in the downloading mode. Black screen with yellow text "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!" and a yellow traingle with a shovel android robot.
The other recovery modes - volume down plus home puts it in a boot cycle with a colorful snow screen - volume up plus home puts it in a boot cycle that never gets past the ATT Wold Phone screen. Powering it on with no volumes puts it in the same cycle as the the volume up boot.
Could anyone give me some direction on how to make use of the only boot screen I have available, or is it now a fancy paperweight?
Thank you, and I appreciate your help ahead of time, and so does his mother who really does not have the money to buy him another at this time.
If you need more information, please let me know.
