Help Galaxy s 2.2.1 or desire

alscott

Newbie
Its that time to get a new phone again and the shortlist are the Galaxy s or desire.
The lure of the GS, for me anyway, are
1. surfing web (bettar on a big screen)

2. watching video (which I understand the galaxy will play XVID DIVx AVI out the box, no need to convert, with a bigger better screen)

3. TV out, would be useful when traveling (Not available on desire)

4. Battery life, which I think is better than the desire

But.. after trauling through endless forums on which is bettar I decided to go for the desire, the deal breaker for me of the GS was the dreaded lag complaint. But... now with a 2.2.1 official update I am reading the problem is gone, or reduced to a point of not really being a problem anymore.. is this so.. and if so does it last or does the lag creep back in after a while.
If the lag is not dead and gone it would drive me crazy, especially if I am locked in for two years.

This is my first post to the forum and sorry if I am repaeting what has already been asked. Any response would be much appreciated, thankyou in advance

The lag is pretty much gone with 2.2.1 and battery life has been improved with the latest firmware.

I really don't understand why you got the Desire, I wouldn't even take a Desire HD over a Galaxy S.

It's safe to say that the lag is gone for good with the introduction of 2.2.1. Installing a light weight launcher like Zeam would definitely help too.

As for TV out, headphone 3.5 mm jack to 3 coloured lines only. So don't expect HDMI out through the micro USB.

On the matter of battery life, it's variable.

Hey guys thanks for your responses. Shocky sorry for confusing but I had made my mind up to get a desrie until I spotted a post that 2.2.1 had fixed the lag. Now I`m undecided again:rolleyes:

Ok two responses saying lag is gone :D and one sayin "pretty much gone", would you say the phone is now as responsive as the desire?... or better!..(to anyone with knowlege of both phones I suppose)

Also thanks for the feedback on the TV out snapper.fishes, composite would be fine as it is to replace an old archos using same type of output, just hoping it plays most AVI, DIVx XVID.

I have an SGS and I rarely get a moment of lag (I'd be lying if I said it never ever lags at all at times, but as I say, hardly ever).

As far as the battery life goes, I couldn't really give a fair comment as I havent put the phone down since I got it.

The closest phone I've used to a desire is my girlfriends Wildfire, so again, I couldn't make a fair comparison.

Would I be right in guessing you are on Orange (UK)?... These were the two phones on my shortlist out of the phones they had to offer.

I wouldn't look back. Very happy with this phone, if you hadn't already gathered! lol.

Ahh, I understand now, good job you spotted it then. :D

I take it canada is only going to jump straight to 2.3 eh? There hasn't been a 2.2.1 here D::confused:

I think you folks up north are just getting screwed over by your carriers... but don't worry, the folks down south are equally screwed.

Samsung really need to fix that carrier problem for America (continent).

Well we did get Froyo earlier than the US i think we'll be good.

Ok I got the phone and am very happy with it. Its running 2.2.1 and have not noticed any lag, this is a quick responsive phone. So many features I like. I have noticed that when in the browser somtimes if i try to scroll around the page somtimes a second swype of the finger is needed, but being picky now.
Thanks again for your responses

The only problem I have now is that I have a million more questions:o
  • can you transfere downloaded iplayer progs from a PC to galaxy S
  • how do I find the bookmaks in the browser that i have stored
  • can you change the annoying voice in maps navigation
  • how do you insert the android smileys into text message
  • Ive seen the android "pee-ing" on the apple pic, can I get this as a screen saver (just makes me laugh!!):p
Got loads more, so will have to start searching for answers, thanks again
