Even with automatic brightness unticked, I set the brightness to lowest level. Yet after a while I notice that the screen is noticably brighter, I check the setting and it has indeed increased! I know that brightness can be altered by sliding accross the task bar, but this occurs without even touching the task bar. It is VERY annoying, has anyone come accross this issue? I am running Froyo 2.2.1 stock.

Well either use a widget for the brightness setting or a custom kernel. There might be apps like the browser that can set their own brightness (if I remember correctly).
Or use the screen filter app and let the automatic brightness do their job.
This bug/feature with the brightness is in many other devices from time to time (and android versions)
