Galaxy S II Android Market Problem

Hello,

I recently acquired my Galaxy S II unfortunately I have encountered a problem with the android market. When I attempt to download something it shows the green bar moving and underneath it says "Starting download" however it never finishes or progresses in any way. I've never owned an android phone before but so I'm afraid I cannot provide more detail as I do not fully understand it yet though I do love it so far save for this problem. Thanks in advance for any responses.

If you have the "new" market on the device it's a widespread problem with data connections. On my Motorola Atrix whenever I open the new market the data connectivity icon on the status bar flashes on an off and I have a lot of trouble downloading and updating apps. I haven't figured out or found a fix yet.
