Help Galaxy s... nothing but trouble... HELP!

I've had a htc desire for the past year and not experienced ANY problems whatsoever. It was running stock 2.2 which i updated via wi-fi whenever prompted that an upgrade is available. Never bothered rooting as the process seemed complicated in comparison to the galaxy s and still have a year warranty left on it.
Last night i got my hands on a galaxy s and decided it was time for a change, expected a simple transition, like from my G! to desire... how wrong was I?!

After logging in, I was able to download 4 apps before the market refuses to download anything! Never had this issue with any of my previous phones:*download was unsuccessful* message

Im running 2.1 but want and know newer roms exist although Kies is telling me otherwise!

my phone is rooted but still consider myself a noob as far as custom roms go.

the plan was to have my desire listed on ebay today but at this rate i will be the galaxy s as im rapidly loosing my patience..... RANT OVER...breath lol

is there a rom that will address the above issues im having? I have looked up many posts on net regarding my market issue and majority of them involve a galaxy s.

your help would be much appreciated....link to a guide/vid would be good as im still a noob.

thanks!

Kies states that I am up to date so does not offer me 2.2 is there anywhere i can download it from and install manually? this phone is doing my head in:mad:

I dont think you can update when it is rooted. Unroot, try again. If it has a custom ROM on it, it certainly wont update and will say "unregistered device".

Sound like its not a problem with the device. More like you don't fully understand and have modified it and now it won't update. Kies will be unable to update the device if you have changed something that it doesn't recognize.

If you look on xda developers there are tutorials on how to trick kies into updating your phone to the latest firmware.

As the others have stated unroot the phone first....I assume you used the one-click root option? You can unroot option in the same app.

You should then be able to update using Kies if you want or odin...I would personal use odin and flash back to Froyo JPY and then use Kies to update.

if you need to download odin or the Froyo firmware goto News - www.SamFirmware.com

Cheers will do this for now but want to eventually update via odin once i've looked into it. Currently having an issue with app market too.... Unsuccesful download. Thanks to all the above will let u know how i get on. Ps i didnt use one click... just copied file to sd then bootload.... Im assuming this is long way? How would i unroot as i rooted this way?

If you're already on samfirmware (Login - www.SamFirmware.com)

then you can see them list the firmware clearly by the firmware number and they include both the Android version and the release date. If you're in the UK I suppose you can either use the provider firmware or use the European release. I'm guessing the latest for you is XXJVP? (samfirmware.com)

They have instructions up top.

Maybe this video can help you. I just quickly searched it online.

Oh, ignore their USB 'Jig' thing. Just turn off your phone, and when you turn it back on hold your volumn DOWN button + hold the Home (middle) button.
