Help Galaxy S searching for Service

I just had wo people come to me with a Galaxy S and both phones are searching for service yet other phones that are on T-Mobile have service and some of those phone are on the same plan as one of the Galaxy S'. Is anyone else having this issue?

try to switch to 2G, and then back to 3G in another location.
