Help galaxy s with cracked lcd

BelBird16

Lurker
Hey there. I dropped my galaxy s and cracked the LCD screen. Phone turns on but now I have a black screen. I can get a new one through my warranty for $199 or get a new screen put in for $287. My friend sold me her galaxy s for $80 instead. My problem is..... How do I get all my data off old phone? Been trying to connect to Kies, but it tells me to connect in "PC studio mode", which I can't do because of black screen. Does anyone know if it is possible to get all my info from old galaxy to new one please. Thank you. Bel :-)

Sorry to hear about your screen. I was also in your situation about 3 weeks ago (dropped phone and lcd shattered, also damaging digitizer).

I searched for a week on how to connect my phone via KIES to backup my data, but to no avail. There was no way I could get my phone into the Kies mode since the screen/digitizer was unresponsive.

I ended up taking my phone to a local mom&pop cellular repair shop and had the screen/digitizer replaced, and now all is good. I've since backed up my data and upgraded my firmware from 2.1 to 2.3.3

Do a search for a local samsung galaxy s repair shop in your area and hopefully you'll find a place that is cheaper than the prices you listed.

FYI, the screen and digitizer comes as a 1 piece assembly.

Good luck.
