Help Galaxy S2 issues.

Ok, heres the problem that I had with my GS2 on Saturday here. Apologies in advance for the long post but it really did act up quite bady on me...

I was out in the pub with a few friends and I was using the wifi in there. Unfortunately, the battery was dying on me and it got to a very low percentage of a charge. 7-8% IIRC. At this point, it kept giving errors whenever I tried to use the internet on it from there on.

It would not work on my facebook app. Instead of the normal "connection lost", messsage that would normally come up, it said "cannot find a secure connection" instead . It would not connect with my twitter or youtube apps either (or anything else for that matter) but it would connect if I searched with the google widget alright.

This is with the wifi and the 3g network also. It behaved the same way with either of them.

For some reason, the time and date were both wrong as well but that could be due to lack of connection with the internet.

It also decided to stop keeping a log of calls made on it also as I had to keep going through my contacts to find my brothers number every time I wanted to ring him. He didnt answer the first few times and his name was not in the log for that day and neither were a few other numbers that I had rang after the phone started acting up.

When I got home, I put it on charge straight away and I was hoping that the internet issues were down to it being low on power but charging it didnt help. Also, the charge status got to 44% very fast which had to be wrong also. I took it off charge and it was only at 28% and 36% when I plugged it in and out a few times in an effort to correct it.

In the end, a buddy of mine advised me to do a factory reset so I did that and it is fine now but I was just wondering if anyone else on here had their S2 have a complete meltdown like mine did lol.

I also forgot to mention that in 2 other occasions during the week coming up to this, it was turning off and on by itself as well. 4 times one night and 5 the next time 2 days later.

I did buy it second hand from a shop that does unlocking services etc but it was a good price so I took a gamble on it. The man that sold me it did a factory reset on it before he gave it to me because the previous owner still had pics on it etc but that was 2 months ago so I am wondering if it will happen again.

When I bought it, it had version 2.3.3 software but I updated it to 4.0.3 soon afterwards also if that info helps.

As I stated earlier, it has been resolved for now and I hope it doesnt happen again but I was just wondering if anyone here knows what exactly happened to it .

Thanks in advance BTW :).
Kevin.

It sounds like the random behaviour that many people have reported when not doing a factory reset when upgrading to 4.0.3 from 2.3.3.

The general advice is that when doing updgrades (especially major ones like yours) do a factory reset before and after the upgrade.

Cheers. I did not know this before I did it but I do now. I hope the factory rest I did on Saturday will do the trick as I did not do one before I upgraded the phone so there isnt much I can do about it now unfortunately :(.

Well, so much for getting my hopes up It happened again :(.

Not connecting to the internet through any of my apps (though some are still producing notifications at times alright ) but it is making some effort when I use google search through the google widget. It sometimes asks me about security certificates when I go this way though and the cert prompt can often keep coming back up until after I have pressed the skip button repeatedly .

Time and date still wrong. It thinks its saturday the first of january .

Still not logging calls or texts in the call log and even recorded a missed call from my mother who I confirmed with (by checking her phone even) that she did not ring me at all. I was at work at the time and in an area of no coverage when it happened so it was highly unlikely that it would get through anyway.

I could do another factory reset but that didnt get me much more than 4 days so has anyone else got a solution as this is pretty frustrating at this stage.

A friend I rang (it was able to do that lol :D) advised me to root it instead and if that works, all is good but if not, the phone is knackered.

What should I do? Help please anyone....

hi,

i had this happen to me the other day!!

i've had a random reboot/heating problem for a yr or so with my s2, but last week it wouldnt let me get on the net when it happened either.. would connect to wifi or 3g, and facebook was saying no connection (cant find secure connection or somethin i seem to remember), google play was saying no connection.. i also remember the date resetting, and time reading 10am, but as you said, maybe connection related.. who knows..

its working again now, and i'm not sure what i did..

sorry i can't help out but at least know you're not alone

Cheers anyway mate :).

I got a Galaxy S3 last weekend because the problem persisted even after rooting it. It kept turning off and it got extremely hot in my pocket on another occasion also .

Never buying a second hand one of these phones again after that but it is a shame as the s2 was a good bargain at the time and it worked flawlessly for nearly 2 months until this happened to it :(.
