Galaxy S2 overheating

Northern

Newbie
Hey.
Yesterday I got my phone to make a call and I noticed that it's really warm, almost hot. I'm wondering why that could be and whether it's normal.
I was not running any heavy programs. In fact, I just had my facebook client in the background, and all I did is make a regular phone call.
At some point, I looked at the screen and the brightness dropped to 0 for some reason. I got it back to like 30% and then turned the phone off and on and it cooled down. Never happened again ever since and never happened before.

What could it be and do I need to return this phone? Could this incident damage the phone in some way?

Thank you

I have had phones get really hot when using GPS, Wifi and 3G all at the same time. It's indicative of a rapidly draining battery. Heat is never the friend of electronics, so there is the potential for damage, but it may have just been a one time thing. If it does it again, you should probably notify your carrier if it's still under warranty.

This unusual behavior sometimes happen to almost every device. What exactly cause this type of behavior is anybody guess. Removing & reinserting the battery usually cools the device down really fast. However, if this problem persist - you should return the device for a replacement.

You must have the generic GT-i9000 still with the Android 2.3.3 it came with. Update it to 2.3.4 or later. The update reduced this sort of overheating and improves battery life overall. US versions need not apply since they start with 2.3.5 and above.

Hey guys I have had similar issues. I plugged my phone in to charge before going to bed and woke up the next morning with it boiling hot. Top end of the phone near the camera. I took it into Bell Mobility (Canada) and they sent it out for repair. The repair center wanted to charge me 85$ while still under the 1 year warranty AND extended warranty. I have contacted Samsung directly and I now have bell shipping the phone out to Quebec where Samsung head office is located. They are taking over the repairs. Not sure if a recall will undergo but it seems as if many people are having identical problems
